Scoot was the best brother a girl could ever have. His sense of humor, caring nature, and loving personality will be with me forever. I have been proud of you, big brother, all my life. My heart aches for my best friend, Debbie and their wonderful children, spouses, and grandchildren. Scoot, you will live in our hearts forever.

Dear Debbie,
If there ever was a more loving husband, concerned father, professional soldier, endearing gentleman, outstanding colleague and good friend, it was Colonel George "Scoot" Powers. I sit here in tears thinking of the times we worked and spent together. Certainly not nearly as many as I wish we could have and should have had. We Wish You and the Family GOD's Peace and Love and Ask That HE Bless and Keep Scoot in HIS Loving Arms Forever.

To the Powers Family:
I was saddened to hear of the death of George Powers. I was his troop commander when we served together in the 11th ACR in VietNam. He was an outstanding soldier and leader. He took care of his men and never failed to accomplish any task I assigned to him. We took great delight in kidding each other about our respective colleges, mine was West Point and his was the Citadel.
George, old Friend, I'll see you at "Fiddlers Green".

Debbie and family (and especially Wendy, who took such good care of our daughters so many years ago),
Scoot was truly one of the good guys, who made the military his life's work and passion, and who was one of the main reasons our Fellowship years at Leavenworth were so much fun. We both had been platoon leaders in Vietnam with the Blackhorse Regiment, and we both wore that patch proudly - he will quickly be accepted as a hero in Fiddler's Green. We will miss that smile and that laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.

My heart led me to Florida to care for a gravely ill member of my husband's family. Not a close relative to me but a hero and a gentleman none the less. Scoot retired from the US Army; he had fought for our country in Vietnam. It was my honor to lead his family into the battle for his life and watch them bravely face defeat as cancer was the victor. Lt. Col. Powers was brave to the end and so was his loving wife Debbie. No one should ever have to endure that women did and she did it with the courage of the fiercest soldier. Her husband and children have got to be very proud of her.
God Bless You ALL-Debbie, Wendy, Cari, Barry, Brian, Cassie and Bandit and all of your families.
Rest in Heavenly Peace, Scoot

Debbie, Dancy and I are saddened to learn of George's passing. We are sorry that we can not attend the celebration of his life on Saturday.
As I reflect on my memories of George, I recall his sense of humor. I understood his humor and he made me laugh a lot during our college years.
He was a unique man who could mix his mirth with his professionalism. I am glad that I had the opportunity to know him.

To Mrs. Powers and family,
I am saddened to learn that Colonel Powers has passed away. He was my platoon leader in Vietnam and we endured many hardships so many years ago.
He always took care of his men first and was the kind of officer I admired. I was there in the battle when he earned the Silver Star and will always remember the day he promoted me to track commander. Scoot, we won't forget you. ALLONS!

While he was Commandant of Operations, I was a member of one of the club sport teams. I dealt with Col. Powers frequently for two and a half years. I went to him whenever I needed orders approved. He didn’t always give me what I wanted, but he was always fair. He made me get a haircut every time I saw him. It became comical.
On one occasion, our team had a match planned at the Naval Academy. This was a match that we had to go to in order to qualify for the Nationals—we couldn’t miss it. Our going or not rested upon me getting a haircut. He wasn’t going to cut orders for the fifteen or so members on our team until I returned to him with a shaven head.
I hated to hear that he was retiring at the end of 2004. I know that the people in the club sport offices also hated to see him go, as well as friends from Regimental staff—everyone had become accustomed to his fairness and consistency. From what I heard, he ran a smoother ship than his predecessors and his replacement.
I visited him on his final day to say goodbye. Amazingly, he forgot to tell me to get a haircut. I mentioned to him that that was the first time in almost three years that he had failed to tell me to go to the barber shop. His next words were, “Get a haircut Mr. Pressgrove.” That was the last I spoke to him.
I’m very sorry to hear that he has passed away and I hope that he’s resting with the Lord now.
