I met Harry in 1984 while at USF. He was a great mentor through my undergrad and graduate years. He guided me through Greek, philosophy, psychology, and elements of Catholicism, all the while treating me as an equal. He married my wife and I in 1991, and we stayed in touch after I left Tampa, often having wonderful visits on my returns. I will miss his wit and sense of humor, his keen mind, and his loving kindness. Like many of us that he touched, we are better off for having known him and the many ways he shaped our lives would be difficult to list. I will always smile when I think of him in the future. Lastly, and I think this sums up much of who he was: He's the only person I've ever met who studied organic chemistry for fun. Pax vobiscum, amice.

After 28 years with one Bay Area Parish family, I moved my family to Saint Peter the Apostle in Trinity. There, Monsignor Bumpus and Father Hughes welcomed us and shared in our Faith Journey as we all grew together in a young Parish.
Now, shortly after a celebration of life in his 50 years of serving our Lord and Savior, we pray that our friend and counselor be granted eternal rest in the Peace of our Heavenly Father. May your guiding light continue to shine through the works and deeds of Saint Peter the Apostle - your most recent home - and may you always watch over us and lead us onward in your absence.
Your Theology and Liturgical presence will forever resonate within me and through me as I shall recall your Homilies while teaching my children how to live more like Christ Jesus.
Thank you, Monsignor... And may God now Bless you!!
Your Faith Family,
~The Palestras

Monsignor Bumpus,
You will be greatly missed by all of us who knew you. Your words were always so on pointe and I always felt that we could have talked for hours. Though the time you were my Spiritual Director was short, you left a profound impact on me and my relationship with Christ. You are our St. Harry now. Please pray for all of us, your spiritual children. May you rest in the Peace of Our Lord

Harold Bumpus, please know this soul who has lived so well remains forever near...My most sincere condolences to Doug, Brian and Chase for your loss.

I'm very sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in Psalms 37:11, 29. There you will find a heart warming promise that the God of all comfort will fulfill in the near future. I hope this will help all of you to cope during this difficult time.

My comfort, my confidante, my muse, my friend, those are only a few words I can describe that in no way fully tells the story of this great man. I will always cherish the many wonderful happy and sad times we shared. My sympathies to Doug, Chase and Brian, but especially to all those who were blessed to have been in your presence, Msgr. Bumpus. Pray for us, my St. Harry. I miss and love you. You will always be in my heart forever, until we meet again. Love, Karen
