Not sure what to say?

July 13, 2009

I know I said this a thousand times but I am not sure yall have heard it, your Mom and Dad are a part of the best of my childhood memories. At the ranch, the box car, swimming with manatees, swimming at the house in the river, days on the beach, fishing and the stories. I loved the way they loved to have fun and yet enjoyed the simple things. They have tought me so much. I love them both so much and will miss them.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. I know how much you all love your father. He was an amazing man with an amazing heart.

Hank,Roy, Sharon and Bonnie and families,

Our prayers and sympathy are with you. Your Dad was always good to our family - he was good neighbor, friend and colleague. As my Dad used to say - we lost one of the "Good Guys".

I recall one true story - our families had gome out to eat dinner together and we dropped the Brooks off at their house and returned to ours ( few doors down the street). We discovered someone had broken in our house. My parents called Palmer and he was there in a flash running down the street holding a butcher knive! As it turned out the thieves must have been in process when we arrived for we found a tv and other items stashed in the vacant lot next door which they did not get since they were scared off. Thankfully, Dr Brooks did not have to use the butcher knive but he was "ready" and helped return the stolen items to the house. My mother says that both your parents and mine had many laughs over the years when recalling that night!

Dr. Brooks took care of my dog when I was a child. My dog was dying of a blood disease and I thought Dr. Brooks had put her to sleep. What he did though was give her a blood transfusion. A few weeks after "being put down" my parents told me she was alive and would be coming home. She lived another two years after that. Dr. Brooks was a very special man.
Both of my parents passed away within the last 7 months so I know how hard this time is on you all, having barely had time to mourn the passing of your mother and now you grieve for your father. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Who ever said that a mullet can't be caught on a hook, had never attended The Palmer Brooks River Fishing School! Your dear daddy showed me how to cloud the cold, clear waters of the Homasassa with his special 'the secret's in the sauce' fish chum, bait my little hook with a smiggen of white, plastic worm and lower the line in amongst the gathering school of hungry mullet. It was great fun to haul in one fish after another, each wearing a most surprised expression. The loaded bucket would be passed to Barbara and Mom who would deftly dispense with scales and skin. Dad would fillet and smoke more than enough for supper and sharing with friends. Barbara would have fixed a spread with grits and the most delicious Greek salad you would ever put in your mouth and we'd all sit down to a wonderful supper.

It was exactly one year today that your daddy arrived at the little house in Dillsboro. He'd driven to North Carolina to visit the places he and Barbara had visited so many times before. I think he was hoping for a glimpse of her spirit. He was missing her so,so much. We all know he has found her now and is exactly where he is supposed to be......in her loving arms.
