James Joiner Obituary

JOINER, James Allen, 71, of Tampa, Florida went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2014. Originally from Hollywood, Florida Jim was a graduate of South Broward High School (class of 1960) and later attended the University of Miami. In 1982 he moved to Tampa as a district manager for Winn Dixie stores. After being with the company for 38 years he retired in 1996. After his retirement, he started a second career and opened a car dealership Florida Wholesale Automotive which he owned and operated until his second retirement in 2006. Jim spent his final years enjoying time with his wife Gwen and their boys. He loved antique cars, flying airplanes, boating and fishing, but he will be remembered most as a devoted husband and father to his children. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Elbert Joiner of Hollywood, Florida, his youngest brother Joseph Joiner and sister Mary Roth. He is survived by his loving wife Gwen, daughter Cara (Joiner) Coletti of Davie, Florida, son Michael Joiner and wife Barbara Joiner, of Lake Worth, Florida, Joseph Joiner and Matthew Joiner, both of Tampa, Florida, step son Taylor Yaney and wife Chelsea Yaney of Tampa, Florida, step son Colby Yaney and wife Alisha Yaney, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and his brother Robert Joiner of Hollywood, Florida. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren. The wake will be held at Sunset Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, January 20, 2014. A funeral service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel at 11am on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Sorry to hear about Jimmy. He was not only the older brother to Bob but kind of a surrogate older brother to me growing up next door. Even worked for him a while at the Winn Dixie on Sheridan Street. Really sad to hear this news.

I am sorry to Gwen and the family for your loss,I just got the news today and I have had a heavy spot on my heart and ya'll on my mind all day.I can still hear Jim's sweet mellow voice saying 'Well"... or "You know"... he always had a way of saying things.He was a sweet,caring, loving family man and will be missed and never forgotten by his friends.

Jim could make one laugh even during the most stressful situations. He was a true people person. Just 5 minutes with Jim would leave you with a smile on your face that ended with a good laugh.
