Janda Owen Obituary

Owen, Janda Diveta

passed away on May 11, 2025, after battling an unexpected 2022 ALS diagnosis. She fought this horrific disease with courage and grace in Oregon, surrounded by her loving family. A true caregiver, Janda met her challenges head on and always put the well-being of others first.

Janda was born to Casilda "Dolly" and Arthur "Art" DiVeta in Tampa, Florida. In addition to being head Chiefette dancer and crowned "Fairest Princess" homecoming queen at Chamberlain High School, she had the lead role of Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls." While studying ballet and costume design at USF, Janda designed and single handedly sewed all the costumes for a Chamberlain theatre production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Her lifelong passion for design and architecture was evident in her homes and her inherently creative way of life.

Janda is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Jeff; and her three amazing sons, David Dougherty and wife, Natalie, with children, Ripley, David; and Blake, Ryan Dougherty and wife, Desiree, with children, Zane and Zia; and Jared Owen and wife, Kaity with children, Hunter and Miles. She is especially grateful to have met and known each of her precious grandchildren.

Janda treasured her younger brother, Jack DiVeta, and wife, Susan, plus nephew, Anthony and niece, Rachel. Her wonderful Godparents are Anna and Oscar Alvarez. Cousins are Sheree and husband, Dr. Fred Slone, with their son, Dr. Samuel Slone; also Fred Byrd and family around the country.

As Senior Real Estate Paralegal with Hill Ward Henderson for 35 years, Janda considered the Firm to be family and so appreciated their continuous support. The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Anson Wilks and the ALS Clinic teamat OSHU who diagnosed and treated Janda, Dr. Timmothy Yacoub, Serenity Hospice, and they send very special blessings to the caregivers at Mountain View ACH, LLC.

An especially meaningful quote: Yesterday is History. Tomorrow is a Mystery. Today is a Gift. That's why we call it "The Present." Janda always encouraged all to go forth with unconditional love for each other.

A private family service honoring Janda will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Jesuit High School, Tampa, Florida, from where her three sons, David Dougherty, Ryan Dougherty and Jared Owen, each graduated.

I was so shocked to read about this! My heart goes out to the family. Janda was a special person and my best friend in elementary and junior high schools. I have so many fond memories of her and her family. One particular memory that stands out is when several little 12 year old girls went on the WALT Radio train to Jacksonville to see the Beatles in 1964. We thought we were so cool. Dolly drove us to and from the train station. Also, Sunday dinners with Dolly´s spaghetti - the best!! RIP Janda! Sending love and prayers to the family during this difficult time!

Scott Dougherty fathered her two sons and was instrumental in her success in all theatre productions. He loved her and encouraged her to reach for the stars.

To My Dear Friend Janda,

It´s hard to find the words, but my heart is full of love for you. From the moment we met back in junior high, I knew you were someone special. You weren´t just a friend-you became one of my very best friends. Through the seasons of life, you remained a beautiful friend and I am so grateful for every memory we made together.

You had the kindest heart I´ve ever known. Your warmth, your laughter, and your unwavering support touched my life in ways I´ll carry forever. You loved deeply and gave so freely of yourself, and the world was brighter with you in it.

I miss you more than words can say, but I take comfort in knowing your beautiful soul is at peace. I will hold our memories close and treasure the gift of your friendship for the rest of my life.

I love you, Janda-always.

With all my heart,
Pam
