John Favata Obituary

FAVATA, Sr., M.D., John J., of Tampa, Fla., age 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Born in Tampa, Fla. on December 18, 1924. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Lucy; his five children, Dr . John Favata, Jr. and wife Linda, Cynthia F. Spokas and husband Al, Dr. Deborah Shultz, Eileen Ison, Stephanie Favata and fiance David Brown; and his nine grandchildren, Adolph Spokas and wife Amber, Michae l Spokas and wife Malina, Joey Favata, Leticia Worsham and husband Ryan, Nicola Perniciaro and fiance Jason Papy, Jeanna Favata, Natalie Shultz, Alberto Suarez, and Christopher Shultz; his beloved brother Pe ter Favata and wife Lily and their children, Belinda Llanes and husband Tony, and Morris Favata; all whom he loved very much. His parents Joseph and Mimi Favata preceded him in death. Dr. Favata graduated fr om Hillsborough High School and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He received his B.S. and Masters from the University of Florida and was a tackle for the Florida Gators football te am. He was employed with Merck Pharmaceuticals as a Chemist. Dr. Favata went on to graduate from the first class of The University of Miami School of Medicine in 1956. Dr. Favata returned to Tampa after his training at Jackson Memorial Hospital and opened a family medicine practice where he delivered loving professional care for thousands of patients until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Hillsbor ough County Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Practice. He touched so many lives with his caring hands and loving heart. He wil l be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home chapel Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. A service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Assoc ., American Heart Assoc., and the American Diabetes Assoc.
