Jose Richard Berrios

BERRIOS, Jose Richard, 74, of Brooksville, Fla., passed away Sunday, December 7, at his home. He was born in Puerto Rico and came to this area 40 years ago from Homestead, Fla., where Dr. Berrios served a physician at the Homestead Air Force Base. After moving to the area, Dr. Berrios joined Gorge Escamilla at the Harvard Medical Center, where he practiced obstetrics and gynecology and was responsible for delivering many births in Hernando County. Later, Dr. Berrios served as chief of staff of Lykes Memorial Hospital, now Brooksville Regional Hospital, where he served for many years. Dr. Berrios received his bachelor of science degree from Tulane University and his doctor' s degree from the University of Puerto Rico. He interned at Detroit Memorial and Wilford Hall Hospital, Lackland Air Force base in Texas. Dr. Berrios is survived by his beloved wife, Zaida; four children: two sons, Jose Richardo Berrios II and his wife, Chika, of St. Petersburg, and Edwin Michael Berrios and his wife, Amy, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two daughters, Esther Watson and her husband, Kevin, of Land O' Lakes, Fla., and Dennisse Morley of Brooksville, Fla.; two sisters, Blanca Berrios-Ohler of Hamilton, N.J., and Maria Berrios of Brooksville; eight grand-children. Friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, at the Brooksville Chapel of Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 10, at St. Anthony' s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Morley officiating.
