Leatha Dikon Obituary

DIKON, (Steily), Leatha La Rue, 79, born in Orwin, Pa., April 30, 1927, passed away peacefully in her home in Sebring, February 4, 2007. Leatha Dikon graduated from Reading General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She was a member of the last class of the U.S. Nurses Corps for World War II. Leatha lived in several locations in New Jersey for 17 years where she worked as a school nurse. In 1968, she moved to Newbury; and in 1971 to Northfield, Vt. During her life in Vermont, she was elected and served in leadership position in local government and church organizations. She was in charge of blood drawing programs at Norwich University and the town of Northfield, and also served as a private nurse for over 15 years. She enjoyed crafting and was a consummate craft artist, creating many beautiful tole paintings, needlecraft, crocheting and knitting projects. In her younger years, she was active in camping, hiking, skiing and traveling. In 2005, Leatha and her husband, Bob relocated to Sebring where she continued her craft work and served on various organizations serving those in need. Leatha is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert; and three children, Roger Dikon of Jupiter, Fla, Barbara Chase of Colrain, Mass., and Thomas Dikon of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren, Dylan Chase of Cummings, Ga, Ryan Chase of West Palm Beach, Fla, Robert and Nicole Dikon of Jupiter, Fla, Stephanie Dikon of Virginia Beach, and Nicholas Dikon of Jupiter, Fla., Stephanie Dikon of Va. Leatha was also the loving great-grandmother of Isabella and Nicolas Chase of Cummings, Ga. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Marion Achenbach of Tower City, Pa. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb 7, 2007, at the Tanglewood Community Church, located in the Recreation Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to: CHILDREN INCORPORATED 4205 Dover Rd. Richmond, Va. 23221
