Mary MEANS Obituary

MEANS, Mary Jeanette "Jan" 81, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on March 12, 2021 in Lutz, Florida. Jan was born on November 10, 1939 in Geneva, Alabama to James and Ada (Cross) Mims and moved to the Tampa area 51 years ago. Jan earned her Associates Degree from the University of South Florida in Education. She worked for the Florida Mental Health Institute and she enjoyed working with Autistic Children. She later went on to working with the Hillsborough County School System where she excelled in caring for the Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED). Jan was a Florida Master Gardener, and she loved her native plants. She was instrumental in the designing of Lutz Nature Park and developed the Junior Master Gardener Program at the Nye Park on Sunset Lane in Lutz. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, John "Jeff" Means; son, Jason R. Eddins; blended children, Michelle Means and Michael Means; brother, Tom Purdue; sister, Mincy; and granddaughter, Mehgan; she was predeceased by her parents and her brother. A memorial service to honor Jan will take place on April 17, 2021 at 11 am with Unity Church of North Tampa, 19520 Holly Ln, Lutz, FL 33558. Coastal Cremations Lutz
