Michael RUANE
RUANE, Michael John "Mick Rain" founding member and drummer of Pezband and Tampa Bay area musician, hopped his last flight August 14, 2021, courtesy of the U.S. and Florida state governments' homicidal pandemic policy. Like that of millions of others, his death from COVID-19 was entirely preventable. His family, friends and fans are devastated. He is survived by his loving sister, Peggy Ward Ruane; his children, Nicoletta (Thane), Markos, Erik and Michael; his grandson, Dante; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his ever-widening circle of friends. In lieu of flowers, please join us in holding this criminal social order to account and creating a world that is safe for human life, love, music, art and all of Earth's wild creatures. A celebration of life will be held later in the year.

Mike Ruane was a huge influence to me in so many ways. I met him through his daughter Nicoletta when I was just a teenager in Tampa, FL. In the few years that I was aquainted with Mike and his family in my youth, I came to consider him a role model. I looked up to Mike more than I can express here. Mike was kind and funny, and opened his home to me, allowing me to play music in his home studio for hours on end, or to just hang out with him and his family. The stories he told of his hayday and his youth are something I always cherished and from which I took many life lessons. It's been over 20 years since my path parted from Mike and his lovely family, but the influence he had on me still lingers. In fact, I learned of this terrible news when I looked at the calendar the other day and out of nowhere remembered that day was Mike Ruane's birthday, and I looked him up to see what he was up to. My heart goes out to his family, especially his children Nicoletta and Markos, who I know inherited and will carry on every bit of his kindness, wit, and wisdom. The world, and my world, was made far better by Mike Ruane.

I met Michael (Mick) 47 years ago as the drummer for the mighty Chicago based rock/pop group Pezband. He was the talented beat behind one of America's finest musical groups. They went on to record three well received records and were greatly admired by their many fans across the US, England and Japan. He had a good soul and a great sense of humor. Although we both resided in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, I knew him in Pennsylvania and New York when I would cross paths with his band... I wish we could have connected here but never did. His passing was a great loss to us all and reminds how short & precious life really is. If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they've got a hell of a band.

Mike made a tremendous impact in my life. I met him in Chicago in 2013 and since then got a chance to speak a lot with him. He taught me so much about life. I was also fortunate to watch him perform at the Mayne Stage (2014) and one last time at the Wall to Wall Studios (2016). Mike was someone very special...I always felt like he was from another planet. My condolences to all his family and loved ones. Thank you Mike for every lesson. May God bless you my friend.
