Ralph and I have such great memories. We will never forget his expertise in photography and we had a little secret about one certain photo! Loved his humor.

I recently heard of Ray's passing last fall. He photographed my wedding in 1997, my daughter's Bat Mitzvah in 2015, and we just missed him for our son's Bat Mitzvah this year. He was a phenomenal photographer and a kind and friendly man with a good sense of humor. He managed our events and kept people feeling at ease during the chaos. He helped me pic my photos with tremendous patience, and I am grateful to have had him part of my family's special events. He is missed.

Ray collaborated with my father, Phil Graham Sr. on many weddings and eventually bought the studio/residence from my parents when they retired. Ray was especially dear to our family and his kind and light humored manner brought warmth to all who met him. My father had the utmost respect and trust in him and his talent, speaking highly of him whenever his name was mentioned. Ray´s gentle spirit and skills insured his success in business and life. Ray provided lasting memories for so many in his career. Our family joins with his in celebrating his life well-lived. Stephanie & Phil Graham, Jr.

I met Ray when shopping for someone to video my wedding in 1989. He did a wonderful job. I was recently wondering about him when I saw an ad for Maddock Photography and I learned of his passing. What a wonderfully talented man.

Ray Bassett was a wonderful man and exceptionally talented photographer. I worked with him for many years as he had become "the official photographer" of Congregation B'nai Israel for all our official historial events , catching the essence of people and history, from our Hebrew High graduations, Simhat Torah Celebrations to our historic move into our new building in 2000. His kindness, sensitivity and calm demeanor produced many wonderful photos for us at CBI. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew him.

So sorry to hear and many condolences to your family. Our family has had Ray photograph all important events. The funniest thing he did was photoshop my husband into our family picture without telling us! We were hysterical! He had such a good sense of humor. He´ll be missed

Thanks to Ray, I have some wonderful photographic memories of Tierra Verde visits over the years, when Janis and I shared memories of newspaper days together and enjoyed the Eckerd College Writers in Paradise lectures. He was always welcoming and patient, and sure to run into grateful folks he´d photographed. He was a man who thoroughly enjoyed his work, and it showed in his photographs and the relationships he built over the years. RIP, Ray Bassett.

51 years ago I met Ray while working at Kraft Color Lab in St Pete. He asked me if I would be interested in being his assistant photographer and train with him on shooting weddings.I worked with him for about 3 years ...and he taught me how to become a professional photographer. I ended up moving back home to Syracuse and was able to earn a living, working for local studios doing photography for the rest of my career.....thanks to Ray. He was a gentle and giving friend to whom I´ll always feel privileged to have known.
This week I visited Orlando with my wife and grandkids and as they went to Disney World, I decided to drive over to see Ray again as it had been 15 years since I saw him last. I arrived at his studio, and I was met by a number of folks that I didn´t know. I said "hi... is Ray in?" The gentleman I was speaking to looked right into my eyes and told me Ray passed on 2 days ago. That hit me in my heart like a dagger and I was devastated to have just missed him by a couple of days.I know that he has gone on to his "reward" and he will be missed by everyone who knew him. I didn´t know his family left behind, but I wish them all comfort and peace and I´m sure they are all wonderful folks and I send them my love during this tough time. I will raise a glass in a toast to my friend,,,,Ray.

There is a danger and a poison that has permeated the mindset of so many people. That danger, that poison is selfishness. Ray was a most unself person. He made room in his life for other people; and he was not afraid to reach out and help if there was a legitimate need.
I first met Ray in the 80's when l needed to renew my Jamaican passport. Years later when l stopped by to do some painting on the building, he smiled and said, "l know you!" Since that day l have been in his employ. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. RIP my friend and brother from another mother.

We met Ray before our wedding 38 years ago--since then, he has been our photographer at our children's events and weddings. Over the years, Ray became a friend--he was patient, funny, very professional, and so talented in photography. We will miss his wry humor and smiling face, and are so happy we got to know him. May his memory be for a blessing. Condolences to his family.

Ray and I were friends since 1972. He was a family friend and took so many beautiful pictures of my family. I just spent time with him last month and he put our family videos on a thumb drive. I loved him and will miss him dearly. He was a precious friend.

Ray did both of my daughters Bat Mitvah and wedding photos, as well as several family shoots in my home. We thought of him as an honorary family member and member of the Jewish community. Sad beyond belief...we´ll miss him.

Ralph and I have known Ray for 50 plus years and have always admired his work and his great personality. I brought my daughter to his studio when she was one year old and seeing his beard, she cried. Ray said, I have an idea. Meet me at Stetson grounds. I brought Susan there and Ray had his puppy and the photo shoot was a success! Ralph used him in his profession, he did our daughter´s wedding annd other events and recently photographed a party for my husband to which he and Janis were invited. He was a true professional and good friend. Our deepest sympathy to Janis and the entire family.
