Richard PLACZEK Obituary

PLACZEK, Richard S. "Dick"

81, of Clearwater and formerly of St. Petersburg, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at Morton Plant Hospital. He was born in Westfield, MA. His parents immigrated from Poland, meeting in the United States. He was the youngest of 10 children and is survived by one brother, Fred (Irene) of Windsor Locks, CT, and several nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, GA. To complete his MBA with emphasis on hospital administration, he came to St. Petersburg in June 1960 to serve a one-year residency at Mound Park Hospital (now Bayfront Health). He remained in Pinellas County throughout his career, serving in several positions and retiring in 1997 as Executive Vice President, All Children's Hospital. After retirement, he volunteered at the hospital on Monday afternoons. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church since 1960. At the time of his death, he was an active Deacon and teacher of the Celebration Sunday School class. He was a member of the Gideons International East Camp and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Fifth Avenue Baptist Church 600-49th St. N. Suite A, St. Petersburg, FL 33710 will be appreciated. Visitation will be 2 to 4 pm Sunday, May 3, 2015 at E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home 4100-16th St. N. Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, May 4, 2015 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church 4901-5th Ave. N. with Dr. Hal Kitchings and Rev. Mickey Burroughs officiating. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Online guest book at

marilyn--so sorry to have missed today's service--had city council meetings and work session--please accept carolyn's and my sympathies--we so enjoyed working with dick when he was at all children's and appreciated all the support he provided over the years--may the Lord our God grant him everlasting life in His Kingdom--love from carolyn and me

Dick was a great person to work with at ACH. Always available,smiling and willing to help do what was best for patient care and ACH. He was definitely one of a kind! My condolences to his family.
