Ronald Knight Obituary

KNIGHT, Ronald Alan 58, of Clearwater, passed away in his home Saturday, May 24, 2008. He was born Oct. 2, 1949, in St. Petersburg, to James and Madeline Knight. Following graduation from Dunedin High School in 1968, he served in the Army. He retired from Verizon/GTE after 33 years of service. Ron spent the majority of his life in Florida surrounded by family and friends. His laugh was infectious and would light up any room. He was a giving person and was always ready to help anyone with their household projects. Ron was very proud to share the knowledge he gained during his many years working on the line crew for Verizon. He loved to fish and even supplied stone crab claws to the local market. Watching the Game Show Network and the Food Network became an enjoyable pastime for Ron. Time with family was time well spent. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Knight of Clearwater; his children, Page and Greg Andersen of Dallas, TX, Jason and Sheri Aquilar of Clearwater, Trish Aquilar and Kenton Grove of Woodbury, CT, and Brie and Jayson Gwaltney of Clearwater; his grandchildren, Kyle and Thomas Andersen, Daniel and Jonathan Aquilar, Justin Varecka and Rajon Gwaltney; his mother, Madeline Knight; sister, Susan Knight and dog Yogi. He is predeceased by his brother, Carl James Knight in January 1989. Ron was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by many. There will be a Memorial Service at the funeral home on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 6 pm. Our deepest sympathy to the family. We were neighbors for years, and Ron was a great pal to our son. Ron always had time for neighborhood kids. We entrusted Ron with our son, many, many nights while out Mullet fishing. He always had the time to talk, joke around and have some fun. We feel his influence on our son's life was so positive, and Ron was the kind of man the kids would look up to. He could inject fun and laughter into any situation, yet show patients and understanding. Ron was a valuable friend, neighbor, pal and mentor, and he will be missed. How sad, such a giving person had to be taken away from us so soon. He will be missed, and will always be remembered. May we all celebrate his life and cherish what he was to so many.

Ronnie was a wonderful friend and father. He is the one who introduced me to Dirty Jobs and the Game Show Network. I will always remember his smile and his sense of humor that he held till the last time I saw him. I miss him but I know he is at peace now and he is with family. He will live on in our hearts and dreams.
