Steven MEITZEN Obituary

MEITZEN, Steven Carl CLU was born July 28, 1956, and entered eternal life September 18, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Tracey of 30 years, along with sons, Edward Meitzen (Leticia), Andrew Meitzen, and daughter, Dominique Meitzen; three grandchildren, Zander, Aiden and Analise; brothers-in-law, Tony and Steve Ficarrotta; sister-in-law, Carol along with many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Carl Meitzen, Margaret Higgins, and sister, Ruth Ann Ross. Steve graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1980 and immediately started working with his father at American Chambers Life Insurance Company in Naperville IL. After Carl's passing in 1997, Steve and Tracey moved back to Tampa. Tampa became his home. He was active in many community organizations, such as: He started the first Virtual Chamber of Commerce. He was past President of the Bay Area Manufacturing Association and became a lifelong member. He started the Tampa Bay Nebraska Alumni Association so he could gather with friends and watch his beloved Huskers. He was past President of the Police Athletic league where he mentored many of the community youths. He was a member of the S.T.E.M program through the Hillsborough County school system, and he was a part of the development of the Tampa Bay Fishing Council to name just a few. Steve's most memorable moments were when he went fishing with his father and friends in Alaska and spending time at April Point. He loved to play poker, fixing ribs for his friends, hanging out in the pool, just enjoying life and the people he met along the way. Steve never met a stranger and valued everyone who crossed his path, everyone was a friend that he considered family. Services will be held on Friday October 14 at 2 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33609 with a celebration of Life immediately following at a reception hall there at the church.

We were so very surprised & sorry to learn of Steve's passing. I can still see the both of you at game watches and bowl games. It was always such a pleasure running into the both of you. I read with interest Steve's membership of the S.T.E.M. program as our granddaughter participated in it during her middle school years. She loved it! Please accept our deepest sympathies in the loss of your beloved husband and father. Nancy & Dale Sells

This planet will never be the same with Steve gone. He literally lit up the room with his humor, spirit, positivity, energy and authenticity. In short, Steve was the REAL DEAL. I will miss him tremendously but will be forever grateful for his friendship, mentoring, encouragement, and love. Rest easy Stevers!

Steve was an amazing person. He was very patriotic and very supportive to the military. He never met a stranger and was always entertaining with his humor. I will miss the great conversations about family, sports (Nebraska vs. OSU), politics, the economy, etc, but mostly I will miss his friendship. He was taken away too soon, but God has a plan for all of us. I know he is watching over us all now. Love and miss you Steve!

Steve was a great person. Never a dull moment when he was around. He was very witty and would make everyone laugh. I would call him to be a guest speaker at the Great American Teach In every year. Of course, he always said yes. The students and faculty loved his presentations. He will be missed immensely, but heaven has gained one more angel! We love you Mr. Steve.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived and loved. I will always remember the times we shared at MCC, especially the moments when you would talk me off the ledge with your amazing sense of humor, that would bring the entire office into laughter, our dinners at Vallarta's Mexican Resturant. Steve will be truly missed by all he has touched with his precious gift of love, caring heart and that amazing sense of humor that he displayed.
Blessings upon you,
Machelle Pickering
