Walter Lyons Obituary

LYONS, Rev. Walter "Cowboy" "As the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest to settle her young. My home is by Your altars, Lord of Hosts, my King and my God." Psalm 84:4. Rev. Lyons, left this life to continue his journey on Monday, February 28, 2005. Walter was born to Mose and Betty Lyons on July 7, 1940 in Inverness, Miss. He attended school in Mississippi. He later moved to Florida, working in the citrus industry. He was called into the ministry in 1972 and ordained by Dr. C.C. Reaves in 1978. He was married to the former Patricia Britt, and to this union a son, Walter Jr., was born. Walter's greatest joys in life were gospel singing, fishing and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his son, Walter Lyons Jr. and wife, Nadine; stepson, James Simpkins and wife, Sandy; stepdaughter, Tonya Seigler and husband, Dexter; brothers, Arthur Lee Lyons, James Lee Lyons, Billy Lyons, John Lee Lyons and Robert Lee Lyons; sisters, Callie Brewer and Rosa Brooks; two grandchild ren, Anthony and Natalie; two step-grandchildren, De'Ja and Jaylah and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the St. Mark Baptist Church in Avon Park with Rev. S. Williams and Rev. Jeremiah Trotter officiating.
