William KNAPP Obituary

KNAPP, William Frederick "Billy"

79, of Tampa, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 while doing one of his favorite things, running. Billy was born on December 31, 1937 to Leila and Earl Knapp. He attended Plant High School (1951-55) where he played third base for the Panthers. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1960 and made lifelong friends as a Gator and member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Billy was a decorated veteran of the Navy, proudly serving his country as an aeronautical navigator and playing an instrumental role during the Cuban missile crisis. After completing his service with the Navy, he worked at Raytheon for 18 years in Miami, FL. Billy moved back to Tampa in the early 1990s, working as a financial advisor for AIG VALIC then finally enjoying his retirement with his family. He is survived by the love of his life for the past 63 years and wife of 56, Jill Simpson Knapp; his three daughters, Kim Koury, Karen Matthews (Michael), and Kelly Cunningham (Brendan); his grandchildren, Camaron and Kai Koury, Kayla, Kerry, and Kennedy Cunningham; his sister, Judy Morris; and his nephew, Don Simonds. A Celebration of Life will be conducted for Billy Friday, March 24, from 5-7 pm at the Tampa Bay Yacht Club in south Tampa. Billy was the best of the best, the memories we all share of him will make us smile for the remainder of our lives. One of my favorites was on our boat when John yelled for Billy to toss him a line....Billy forgot to attach it to the boat...:)....JR and I feel so blessed to have known Billy and the entire Knapp family. Please know we are thinking of you all and wish you peace. Big Hug, Cindy Long and JR Hopwood

Bill was always kind, thoughtful, fun and interested in what I had to say. I will always remember the time he saved the beer. :)

I light this candle so that his garden of remberence bursts a new batch of bloomed flowers.
Love you Bill.

My heart goes out to the entire Knapp family. Bill was such a great guy, so kind and generous to everyone. He was also very smart and I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations I had with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Many kind words are said when someone passes some are true and some are somewhat exaggerated. In the case of "Billy" there cannot be enough said of such a kind and gentle person. His passing has left a giant hole in our lives.
Love you man,
David, Marian, Steve, & Greg
