Cornelius Kelly Obituary

Cornelius J. Neil Kelly III, loving husband of forty years to Susan (Aleixo) Kelly, died on January 2, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Taunton 66 years ago, he was the devoted son of Cornelius J. Kelly Jr. and the late Caroline (Johnson) Kelly. For the past thirty years, Neil was a self-employed registered professional land surveyor. Prior to becoming a land surveyor, Neil taught math and science at Bristol- Plymouth Regional Technical School for ten years. Neil was graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School and was a 1973 graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Neil had a deep passion for history, especially the Civil War and many family vacations were spent with an excursion to some battlefield or historical site. His best times were those spent at home with his family. Neil was a direct descendant of John Alden and was a member of the John Alden Kindred Society. He was a member of the City of Taunton Conservation Commission and was a former member of the Taunton Planning Board. In addition to his wife and father, Neil was the proud dad to three children: Patrick Kelly and his wife Meredith, Sarah Kelly, and Elizabeth Thompson and her husband David. He also leaves his cherished eight month old grandson, Benjamin Edward Kelly; his mother in law Lillian (Viera) Aleixo; two nieces and several cousins. Arrangements were handled by the OKeefe-Wade Funeral Home and services were private. Visit our website www.okeefewade.com to sign the online guestbook, obituaries & directions.

Susan, Patrick, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Mr. Kelly...

I am most sorry to learn of Neil's passing. Growing up as neighbors, he was my one true friend through elementary, high school, college and beyond. We were teammates, schoolmates, co-workers and each other's confidante. I was honored forty years ago when he asked me to be best man at his wedding. His gentle manner, his humor, his sensitivity and warmth were always expressed in a timely fashion and greatly appreciated. My first friend, may you rest in eternal peace.

Sending our heartfelt condolences to the Kelly Family. Neil was such a pleasant person to come into our office. So sorry to hear of his passing and to think we will not see him again. God be with you all and may you find strength and peace in your memories of good times with him. Gwen and Mark from the City Engineer's Office.
