Karl Avery Obituary

"Karl filled a room with his electric presence and infectious wit and laughter."
This is the universal sentiment shared by friends and family of Karl Avery. Karl passed away on June 9, 2017 at the age of 73 and now sits joyfully at our Lord's side.
Karl is survived by Jeanette, his wife of 35 years, his mother Clare, his sister Jeanie and her husband George Thomas. He is predeceased by his father, Paul R Avery, Jr.
Karl was a friend to all. He gave much time and wealth to helping others in need. He was a Big Brother to many, and a long time member of the Big Brothers of America. Karl was born in Baton Rouge, LA and raised in Grayslake, Illinois. He graduated from Marquette University with a bachelor of business degree in 1965. He is a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity.
Karl's business career in the clothing industry began in 1965 with the Munsingwear Company, and ended in 1991 as a National Sales Manager for L.A. Gear. In between he worked extensively in the Surf Industry.

He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, enjoying motorcycles, surfing, wind surfing, scuba diving, boating and, most of all, his great love of piloting his own airplane. The "Surfin" plates on Karl's 1959 Mercedes Benz convertible truly depicted his deep love and commitment to the lifestyle he chose and to the community where he lived his entire adult life.

In the words of the son of Karl's heart, Rob Drag "Long Live Good King Karl, forever in our memory…. A Father Figure and an indescribable inspiration! He lived a fulfilled life… No stone was left unturned."

Another friend says of him, "Karl led a blessed life full of excitement, adventure, jokes, laughter and success. "

Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end; it simply means I'll miss you until we meet again.

Funeral services will be private and a Celebration of King Karl's life is to be announced at a later date.

I am so sorry to see these news.

I was searching about Karl, looking to see how my old friend was after too many years of not having contact.

I met Karl at the NY Show I guess it was in 1983. He was the National Sales Manager at Offshore Sportsware. He hired me as their sales rep for Puerto Rico. That was my first real job as a businessman.

Karl was always supportive. More than once he offered me to stay at his beautiful home in Manhattan Beach when Magic Shows.

Jeannette was always wonderful. They were perfect to each other.

My late condolences to all his family which I knew from conversations we had. He really loved all with all his heart.

And Jeannette, you know how much I appreciated both of you.

I have always missed his sense of humor & kindness.

Rest in peace my dear friend

Karl and I shared a traumatic car crash in 1971. We survived yet lost touch over the years. My heart goes out to Jeannette whose love for him was so apparent. Know Rich will be greeting him in heaven. Such a wonderful soul has touched our lives.

I will miss every thing about my brother. His love for his family and friends. The fact that he never met a stranger. He treated everyone the same. I will miss his laugh, his jokes the way
he loved me was special to me. He was always my protector growing up. I love you with all my heart and you will always be in my heart.
