Chestertown-Beatrice (Dower) Bernhard, 96, died peacefully on Sunday July 23, 2017 at Schuyler Ridge Residential Healthcare in Clifton Park, NY.
She was born in Saratoga Springs, NY and was a long-time resident of both Garden City, N.Y. and Vero Beach, Florida. She was married to Herman Bernhard for almost 65 years. They spent their summers at Loon Lake where they met and built a summer house. Bea earned a Bachelor of Art degree from State University of New York at Albany and a Master's in Social Work degree from Adelphi University and studied illustration at the Traphagen Institute of Fashion in New York City. She loved her career as a School Social Worker in the South Huntington School District, NY. She also had a psychotherapy practice for several years on Long Island, NY. An accomplished oil and watercolor artist, she exhibited at juried shows at the national level, winning many awards. Bea was a member of the Artist Guild Gallery of Vero Beach and the Florida Watercolor Society. She loved to travel the world creating her beautiful paintings. Beatrice is remembered as a peaceful, loving and devoted selfless wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include 4 sons, Dr. Karl (Beth) Bernhard of Acton, MA, William( Judith) Bernhard, of Adirondack, NY, John(Kathleen) Bernhard and wife, of Lake George, NY, Robert (Bing) Bernhard of Saugerties, NY,2 daughters, Barbara (Michael) Biasotti of Vero Beach, FL, Marianne McCann of Ridge, NY and ten grandchildren, Colleen, Elizabeth, James, Rosemary, Deborah, Jennifer, Kenneth, Matthew, Brett, and Bridget, and four great grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Herman L. Bernhard, her parents, Maurice and Beatrice (Mulholland) Dower, and her brothers, John, Maurice, and Robert Dower.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Chestertown, NY. Interment will be at Chester Rural Cemetery, State Rte 9 Chestertown. Arrangements entrusted to Barton-McDermott Funeral Home, 9 Pine St. Chestertown, NY 12817.
