Cherie Everett Obituary

Cherie L. Everett

Vero Beach, FL - Cherie L. Everett, 85, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away at the VNA Hospice House on 5/23/2021, after a courageous year-long battle with colon cancer.

She was born in Wallingford, CT on 9/28/1935 to Jean and Arthur Irwin. She had been a resident of Vero Beach for 20 years coming from Harwich, MA, and Dover, MA. Cherie attended Dana Hall School and Wheaton College. She was married to the love of her life, Don Everett for 65 years.

Cherie worked at Winslow's Nursery for many years and rather than take a paycheck, she preferred her payment in flowers. She also volunteered as an officer of the Harwich Port Tennis Association, The Walker Home and School and American Cancer Society. As an entrepreneur, she co-created a needlepoint design business "Yankee Girls" with her lifelong friend and doubles partner Mercy Wheeler.

She was a past active member of the Dedham Country and Polo Club, Harwich Port Tennis Association, Sea Oaks, The Moorings at Hawk's Nest, the Needham Tennis Club and the Pemigewasset Ski Club.

She was an avid and accomplished tennis player, golfer, bridge player and skier. Cherie won numerous doubles championships having achieved and maintained a New England USTA ranking. She began playing golf at age 60 and established a USGA handicap in the mid-teens. In bridge, she earned her Bronze Life Master status at 80 years of age. She loved volunteering as a bridge instructor at the Vero Beach Bridge Center and at various locations in Harwich MA. Her ski vacations took her to numerous resorts in New England, western US and Internationally.

She is survived by her husband Don; her son Michael (Laura) Everett; daughters Lisa (Jim) DiMarzio; Kris (Rick) Stewart; grandchildren; Leigh Everett (Pete) LaFontaine, Carl (Mandi) DiMarzio, Matt DiMarzio (Gilly Acedo), Cristina DiMarzio, Ashley Stewart, Mallory Stewart; Great Grandson, Connor DiMarzio; sister Peg (Ed) Reichhelm.

Cherie was a creative artist with a deep love of family, friends, dogs (especially Golden Retrievers), birds and gardening (favorite flowers were Orchids and Daylilies).

A celebration of her life will be held and a later date with her extended family and friends. With great appreciation, our family would like to recognize the exceptional care and support our Mom received from her health care providers at the Cleveland Clinic, nurses from the VNA Home Healthcare and the VNA Hospice House.

Condolences may be shared online at www.millenniumcremationservice.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be designated to the VNA of Vero Beach www.vnatc.org or the charity of your choice.
