Doris L. Modglin

DORIS L. MODGLIN Doris L. Modglin, 79, of Oak Harbor in Vero Beach was freed from her earthly bonds on July 16th, 2005. Born August 30, 1925 in Sandwich, IL. She was the daughter of William and Carrie Schwebe. She attended DeKalb Schools, and married James D. (Toby) Modglin on March 2, 1943, in Denver, CO where he was stationed in the United States Army Air Corps. They made their home in DeKalb and Genoa, IL and Vero Beach, FL. In 1995, they retired in Vero Beach. They also enjoyed spending time in the mountains near Bryson City, NC. Doris was employed by the DeKalb Savings and Loan, and also from 1973 until her retirement at Ellwood Greens Golf Course, which she and her husband developed in Genoa. It has since been renamed The Oak Club of Genoa. She has been an active member of The First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, the Assembly of God Church in Rockford, IL and the First Church of God in Vero Beach. Doris enjoyed being involved with the C.E. Adult-Koinonia Group, The Elderberries, and the Prayer Chapel. She will be missed by family and friends left behind. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, "Toby" Modglin of Vero Beach, son, Jim (Sharon) Modglin of Genoa, a daughter, Carol (Kevin) Irby also of Vero Beach. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Chad (Anna) Arthur of Elk Grove Village, IL, Gina (Gary) Nattrass of Alpharetta, GA, Kirk (fiancé Julee Melos) Modglin of Basalt, CO, and Trent Modglin of Chicago, IL. She also leaves behind 5 greatgrandchildren, Colin, Kaleigh and Morgan Nattrass, and Arianna and Alessia Arthur, and a sister, Bernice Davis of Varna, IL. Doris was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Bill Schwebe. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 21st, 2005 at the First Church of God in Vero Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1111 36th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or to the First Church of God Building Fund, 1105 58th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
