I was saddened to hear the news of Dr. Driftmier’s passing. I’ve known him since I was 3 years of age having grown up in South Congregational Church. He was a man of great faith, presence, integrity, wit, charm and grace.

I’ve kept in touch with “Dr. D.” over the past few years through letters and phone calls. When we spoke on his 91st birthday, he still had his wonderful knack of telling a good story. My 11-year old son was in awe to hear Dr. D. tell of his friendship with Ted Williams (THE Splendid Splinter). My two young sons were proud to be pen pals with Dr. D., and it was always a great day to receive his handwritten letters and pictures; we will always treasure them.

Dr. Driftmier has now gone to his Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven with his beloved Betty. He will be deeply missed and will live on in the memories of those countless lives he touched.

“Well done, good and faithful servant”.

To Mary Lea, David and their families, my sincere sympathies on the loss of your Dad and Grandfather.

When I was a young woman and had a small baby, getting to church on Sundays was often very difficult. So my compromise was to listen to Rev. Driftmier on the radio. He spoke so eloquently. It gave me the spiritual "lift" I needed for the week. May he rest in peace.
