Frederick Linden Obituary
Frederick W. Linden, Jr. Frederick W. "Bud" Linden, Jr., of Vero Beach, FL passed away in Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach on January 9, 2006 at the age of 87, with family at his side. He was born March 5,1918 in Moline, IL. He graduated from Moline High School, then attended the University of Chicago, graduating in 1940. Bud loved music, was an accomplished pianist and while in college composed music and lyrics for the various Drama Clubs. He was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity serving as President his senior year. Bud entered the Navy in April 1941, graduating from Pensacola in February, 1942. He loved flying and servedas a Naval Aviator in the Caribbean, South Pacific, Guadalcanal, Munda and Bouganville. Returning to the States he became a Flight Instructor in B24's, and was honorably discharged in September 1945 with the rank of Lt. Commander. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross with two stars and the Air Medal with two stars. In 1942 Bud married his college sweetheart, Harriet Lindsey (Lynn). He is survived by his wife of 63 years and 2 children, Frederick W. Linden III, wife Kathleen of Tustin, CA, daughter Sally Beals, husband Chris of Vero Beach, grandsons Michael and Mark Beals, step-grand son Joseph Beals, and Zachary and Joseph Linden. After the war, Bud worked for Illinois Bell and the family moved to all parts of Illinois. He then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, serving as Vice President of MelRain Corp., manufacturer of component parts for televsions. In 1970 Bud and Lynn moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico, forming the Melvin-Linden Corp. of San Juan and Haiti, serving as Vice President. Bud and Lynn moved to Vero Beach in 1975 and founded what is now ABC Printing Company. They belonged to the Community Church. He enjoyed golf, but most of all he loved being with his family and traveling with them. He had a wonderful smile and sense of humor and many friends all over the country. We shall miss you always, Blondie. The family received friends from 3:30 to 4 p.m., with a memorial service at 4 p.m., Tuesday, January 17th, at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Diehl, officiating. A private graveside service for the family will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Vero Beach, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or the Humane Society of Vero Beach, 6230 77th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32967.
