GEORGE WAFER Obituary

GEORGE J. WAFER George J. Wafer, 67, of Palm City, Florida passed away on Wednesday, February 25 after a battle with cancer. His wife, Marian, daughter Melissa with her husband Robert, and her children (George's grandchildren) Oliver and Ainsleigh, had been caring for him at his home in East Burke, Vermont. George was born in the Bronx in New York on July 9, 1947, the son of George and Dorothy (Gallagher) Wafer. He had a successful career in the automotive OEM and aftermarket industry in electronics and insurance products. He started his career with Audiovox and Clarion before founding VMS in 1983. He was active in many charities including being a founding director of The Clark Gillies Foundation and The Wafer Family Foundation. Most of his philanthropic interests supported his commitment to children. He was committed to his family as a father, grandfather, and wonderful husband to Marian. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be marked in George's memory to the Wafer Family Foundation: 400 Oser Ave Suite 100 Hauppauge, NY 11788, so that we may honor George and his work for children. Pearson's Funeral Home Located at 70 Church Street in Lyndonville, VT is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I had the wonderful opportunity to work for George as his Executive Assistant at OES in the late 1980's. It was the only job I ever had where I actually looked forward to going to work each day. George was truly a kind, caring, very funny and generous man. He worked very hard but knew how to have fun. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to Marian and his entire family. Bella

Charm, wit, strength of personality and love for his fellow man will be what George will be remembered for. It was an honor to have known him, and to have been in his company.

George was my cousin though I haven't seen him in many years. His mom and my mom were sisters from a very large family. I remember him as a really nice kid and am sorry to hear of his passing. I now live in PA

George gave me my first opportunity to become a successful sales manager with the Audiovox Corp., way back when. I will cherish those days and, more importantly, his memory, forever. I will NEVER forget him and 'his crew'!!!!!

A friend of my fathers, George once invited me to VT for a weekend to ski while I had some time off from the Navy. It was my only time meeting him, but my impression was that he was a great man; a community man; a family man. Rest well, George.
