Harry Augustus Davenport, III passed away February 24, 2017 at VNA Hospice House.

He was born January 24, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Harry and Pauline Davenport.

Commander Davenport went to the United States Coast Guard Academy where he graduated first in his class, and had previously been at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also attended Harvard Law School, graduating with honors in 1956. He served for 20 years in the USCG and then with AT&T as an international telecommunications lawyer.

Harry was an avid sailor. After his retirement, he sailed across the North Atlantic, competed in the Bermuda races, and enjoyed playing golf and tennis.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jean Y. Davenport; daughter, Joan Davenport; son, Michael Davenport; his grandson, Daniel Davenport; and his great-grandson, Westin Lane Davenport. His eldest son, Lt. Col. Robert R. Davenport, predeceased him.

The Davenport family is proud to have three generations of military service with Harry's father, Col. Harry Davenport, serving in both WWI and WWII.
