JANICE SANDS Obituary

JANICE SANDS, 88, died peacefully on April 18, 2014 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was born Janice Mae Evans in Fulton, Missouri on February 1, 1926 to Isaac and Pearl Evans. The family moved to Vero Beach, Florida when Janice was a young girl. She graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1943 and later attended Stetson University in Deland, FL. Janice had a great love of life and lived it to the fullest as long as she could. She loved more than anything else her family, friends, traveling and dancing. During WWII, she spent many evenings dancing at the USO in Vero Beach and was crowned Miss Liberty. Janice was known for her cooking and it was always in great demand from her family and friends. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl & Sue Peterson and Richard & Carmen Peterson both of Fort Pierce, FL; grandchildren Eric Peterson of Port St. Lucie, FL; Dru Peterson of Vero Beach, FL and Atlanta, GA; Meredith Peterson of Fort Pierce, FL; great-grandsons Maison, Braxton and Ehan Peterson. She is also survived by her nephews Larry (Susan) Smith of Vero Beach, FL, Philip (Joy) Smith of Sebastian, FL, niece Donna Smith Mastin of Sebring, FL and their beloved families. She is preceded in death by her parents Isaac & Pearl Evans and her sister, Marion Smith. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Ft. Pierce, FL 34981 or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, with a Service at 2:30 PM in the Haisley Funeral Home Chapel.
