John David "Dad" Burkert

John Burkert Obituary

John David Burkert, "Mr. Dad," 87, died Oct. 16, 2012, at his home. He was born in West New York, N.J., and lived in Port St. Lucie for six years, coming from Miami. Before retirement, he was an aviation electrician for Eastern Airlines in Miami. He served in the Navy as an Aviation Electrician-PB4Y in the North Atlantic during World War II. He attended First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for 36 years and the North Miami Beach Tennis Association and was an 8-gallon blood donor for the Community Blood Centers of South Florida's Red Cross. Survivors include his sons, Lee David Burkert of Port St. Lucie and John Robert Burkert of Dallas; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Flora Everett Burkert. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 260 S.W. Prima Vista Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL 34983. Services: A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at the First United Methodist Church, Port St. Lucie. Arrangements are by Aycock Funeral Home, Port St. Lucie.
