John Sarao Obituary

John Ralph Sarao III, 74, died Feb. 25, 2012. He was born in Jersey City, N.J., and lived in Port St. Lucie for 10 years, formerly of Bogota, N.J. He enlisted in the Navy at 16 and served as an electrician on the USS Ticon-deroga CV-14. He earned his teaching degree from Hudson Community College in 1961. He worked for New Jersey Bell as a building management supervisor in Bergen and Hudson County. He also taught A/C and refrigeration at Bergen Technical High School for 23 years. He was an official for the New Jersey Football Association, High School Division; an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus in Teaneck, N.J.; and past officer and member of BPOE Elks Lodge 28-23 in Port St. Lucie. Survivors include his sons, John of Boynton Beach, Michael of New Milford and Joseph of Hackensack; daughter, Jennie Mazzilli of Dumont; brothers, Joseph and Thomas; sisters, Mary and Margaret; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Angela Sarao; brother, Ralph; and sister, Philomenia. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lucie Catholic Church, Attn: Soup Kitchen, 425 S.W. Irving St., Port St. Lucie, FL 34983. Services: A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. March 7 at St. Lucie Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie. Interment will be in Paramus, N.J.
