Kenneth Director Obituary

Kenneth Director

Vero Beach, FL

Dr. Kenneth L Director, 70, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away June 10, 2018 at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born January 15, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Sylvia and Murray Director. He was raised in Shenandoah, PA with his two brothers, Richard and Jerry.

Ken graduated in 1973 from Albany Medical College with a Doctor of Medicine. He then went on to become an Associate Professor of Psychiatry with tenure at the University of Florida. Dr. Director was selected by the UF class of 1982 to receive the Samuel D. Harris Award for outstanding Teaching and Psychiatry and demonstrating concern for students.

Dr. Director began his private practice in the early 80's in Vero Beach. Over the course of his 30 year career as a Psychiatrist he helped over 30,000 people and saved many lives. For more than a decade, Dr. Director gave countless presentations on humor as a positive force in health. He was more than a doctor, he was a friend. And a comedian.

He leaves his memories to be cherished by his daughters, Deanna Sylvia Director of New York, NY and Caroline Mae Director of Burbank, CA, both pursuing comedic careers in his footsteps.

A graveside service will be held 10 am, Wednesday, June 13th at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach with Rabbi Birnholz officiating. Anyone wishing to share a funny story or send the family a message is asked to visit Dr. Director's memorial page at www.coxgiffordseawinds.com.

While I only met Ken a handful of times I knew him to be a kind, wonderfully funny man whose creativity, brilliance and kindness deeply touched those around him. His two daughters, Deanna and Caroline are a living embodiment of those traits. If he were still here today I know he would be so proud of his girls and all they have accomplished. Ken, while you are not here with us on this day you are in the hearts and lives of your two daughters who carry on your name and legacy with love-honoring you with every creative endeavor they put out into the world.

I have lost my Dr. and we all have lost a man whose memory will continue to outshine 1000 stars! His memory will light any dark places with but a single thought of Dr. D's personality!! My visits with him helped more than any pill. To his daughters, know that your dad loves you and shared his excitement for watching you living out your dreams, desires and achievements. He knew of my love for The Arts and I believe that my hearing of your success, it could be a joyful thought to replace a personally sad one. I have wonderful memories, gifted to my mind as a reference to keep my spirit up! Pam, I saw you always at his side and to me you were a huge part of his personal success. I will always think of you as an inspiration in grace and beauty. I am so sorry for the loss your heart must endure. Thank you for all you brought to his life and as a result, to mine. I will forever think of Dr. D. and try to live with his enthusiasm for laughter and enjoying every good moment and I will ALWAYS remember him asking me, so...what have you been doing for fun? That one comment certainly changed my life forever! Surely we were blessed to have known him.

So sad to hear. Condolencences to the family... he was a wondeful man. My father, Dr. Hooshmand, always spoke highly of him... respected him as a colleague and considered him a friend.
