Lawrence Babbitt Obituary

LAWRENCE E. BABBITT Lawrence E. Babbitt, Sr., 80, of Largo, FL passed away on November 4, 2005, in Tampa, FL. Lawrence was born on December 9, 1924, in Quincy, MA, to the late George E. Babbitt and Hazel Sabean Babbitt. He was a direct descendant of John Howland, a Mayflower passenger, through his grandmother, Mary Ann Gorham. He was also a direct descendant of Daniel Babbitt, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Mr. Babbitt was a graduate of Quincy High School, Quincy, MA. He was employed at George E. Babbitt & Sons, Quincy, MA and Hollymatic Sales & Service, Meriden, CT. He attended Central Baptist Church, Quincy, MA, and Center Congregational Church, Meriden, CT. Lawrence is predeceased by his wife Filomena Aresco Babbitt; former wife, Frances Sawdy Babbitt; grandson, Joseph G. Serra IV; sister, Irma Taylor and brother, Donald E. Babbitt. He is survived by his son, Lawrence E. Babbitt, Jr. of West Haven, CT; daughters Elaine Serra of Hartford, WI; Nancy Cote', of Palm City, FL; Patricia Costa and her husband, Anthony, of Everett, WA and Teresa Babbitt of Lincoln, ME; sister, Beulah Wiltshire of Quincy, MA; 13 grandchildren, including Timothy Cote' of Williamsburg, VA; Gina Cunningham of Jensen Beach and Diana Blackard of Stuart; 14 greatgrandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on December 10, 2005, in Quincy and his ashes wil be interred at Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
