Barry Stoner Obituary

Barry Carrol Stoner

August 13, 1954 - June 12, 2025

The Lord took Barry home to him on June 12, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He courageously faced his final months and often said he would accept whatever the father had planned for him.

Barry was born to Carroll and Nina Stoner on August 13, in Menomonie Wisconsin. The family moved quite often in his early life. They lived for a short time in California, Alaska, Washington, back to Wisconsin, then finally settled permanently in Kelso, WA. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1973. Barry was very strong and muscular. His high school classmates called him "Superman" because he was strong, could lift very heavy weights, could run very fast, and he wore black rimmed glasses like Clark Kent. For a few years, Barry held the record in the 440 yard dash at Huntington Junior High.

After high school, Barry worked for a brief time at Longview Fibre. He then took a job at Reynolds Aluminum in Longview, working as a Pot Tender until the plant closed. He then worked at the Weyerhaeuser Planer in Longview until his retirement.

Barry enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He had many wonderful memories of hunting and camping with his son Tyler and his friends. He also spoke fondly of fishing and relaxing by the lake by Tyler's home in Arlington, WA.

Barry loved to reminisce about his early life, especially living on farms in Wisconsin, and spending time with his paternal grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He often would ask his brother and uncle if they remembered a certain time when they were all young and they did then. The things Barry said he would miss the most about living was seeing his family everyday.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Nina Stoner. Barry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maria, who retired to care for him throughout his battle with cancer. Barry is also survived by his daughter Corrine Stoner of Kelso and his sons Tyler (Victoria) Stoner of Arlington, and Joel Martinez of Toutle, and granddaughter Allie Stoner, 2 great grandchildren, Chase and Leah Stoner, and brother Bruce (Janice) Stoner of Longview.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Monticello Hotel on July 12, 2025. All are welcome to come and anyone who wishes to share any memories of Barry are encouraged to do so.

I am deeply saddened of hearing of Barry's passing. He was a very good friend during our working at Reynolds. The last time i saw him he was talking about his upcoming retirement from Weyerhaeuser. He never mentioned anything about having cancer when we visited. He was always upbeat every time we saw each other after Reynolds shut down.

Barry...I will truly miss your smile. You always carried such calm strength and quiet grace. Even though Maria and I have been close friends for many years, you weren´t just her husband-you were her best friend. The love and friendship you shared with her was something special, and your presence will be deeply missed.
