John R. Patten, Jr.

April 11, 1934 - Dec. 25, 2023

LONGVIEW - John "Jack" R. Patten, Jr., 89, passed away at Peace Health St. John Medical Center on December 25, 2023 from complications after a fall.

Born April 11, 1934 in Silverton, OR to John and Maxine Patten, Sr. The family moved to Vancouver, WA, then to Longview in 1947. He graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1952.

Jack married his high school sweetheart Joyce Baumgartner in 1954.

He went to work at Manthe Equipment in 1955, became a Partner in the store in 1971, then took over as Co-owner in 1973 when Robert Manthe retired.

Jack loved being in the outdoors hunting, fishing, clamming, and camping. He took many trips to Hawaii for vacation, and British Columbia, Canada moose hunting.

Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Janice (Gregg) Jones; son, David Patten; granddaughter, Renee (Andrew) Miller; and three great-grandsons. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Harry "Sonny" Patten, and a sister, Maxine "Babe" Buechele.

Jack was an active member of the Bunker Hill and Pleasant Hill Granges. He was also a member of the Longview Pioneer Lions Club. He earned many Lion of the month and Unsung Lion Awards over the years.

Per his request, no service will be held.

I got to know John when he was shopping at Safeway. He was a great customer. Very friendly to all of us. He will be missed
