Wayne Rogers Obituary

Wayne Douglas Rogers

October 27, 1949 - November 3, 2024

Wayne Douglas Rogers passed away surrounded by family at Hospice on November 3, 2024, at the age of 75. He gave his family and friends so much love, lots of laughter, and many cherished memories.

He was born October 27, 1949 in Thistletown, Ontario, Canada to Sidney and Irene Rogers. He grew up in southern California where he met his beautiful wife Karen. After getting married in 1969 and having two children, they decided to move to Washington state where there were promising jobs and the majestic Pacific Northwest to discover.

Wayne worked for Weyerhaeuser on the railroad as a caboose-man, in the woods as a logger, and Norpac where he was recognized for his many process improvements. He retired from Norpac in 2013 and never had a sick day. His dedication to caring for his family drove him to working hard and making a better life for them.

He loved his Raiders football team, fishing, hiking, rock and roll music, and caring for his home, yard, and garden. He also loved camping with his family and friends and gave them countless stories to tell about exploring new places, original camp songs, bears, and a squirrel invasion. He had a kind heart and made friends easily.

Wayne began volunteering for Fences For Fido after retiring and built many fences and freed numerous dogs from chains, giving them a better life. The members of the Fido team became like family to him and they plan to build a fence in his honor.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years Karen; daughter Jori Scruggs-Brown (Terry Brown); son Cory Rogers; brother Larry Rogers (Niki); three sisters, Sue Churchill (Harv), Jan English (Ron), Pam Bormacoff (Steve); three grandsons, Justin Scruggs, Tyler Brown, and Logan Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; and his two pups Lulu and Echo.

Lung cancer stole him away from us. He was diagnosed in March 2024 and was hopeful that he would beat it until the very end.

Wayne did not want a memorial service. Instead, we believe he would have wanted you to remember good times spent together and smile. Memorial donations can be made to Fences For Fido or PeaceHealth Richard Nau Hospice House.

So many memories to cherish and hold dear to my heart. So many things to miss about my Brother. His love for family, friends, the Raiders but most of all his courage that is beyond measurement. He will always be my hero. I love you Wayne.

Wayne was one of a kind. His kindness and giving nature was boundless as was his energy.
One of our favorite memories was a trip to South Dakota where we got up at 4 AM to watch a Buffalo run in Custer State Park. We also hiked up to the nose of the Crazy Horse Monument.. What a hike that was for us. Not for Wayne. He hit the trail
at marathon pace while we trudged along wondering if we could make it.
Wayne actually made that hike three times in one day if you count the number of times he came back to check on us.
Tubing rivers. camping , RVing or tearing out a kitchen were always the best times, with Wayne and family.
We will miss him beyond words and always feel so blessed to have known him.
Love to Karen, Jory , Cory and family.
