Alice O'Connell Obituary

Alice B. O'Connell, 91

WORCESTER - Alice B. (Minor) O'Connell, 91, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, November 30, 2018.

She leaves her husband of 66 years, William J. O'Connell; four children, William M. O'Connell and his wife Mary of Worcester, Thomas F. O'Connell and his wife Tina of West Boylston, Susan A. Burns and her husband Jim of Worcester, and John G. O'Connell and his wife Darlene of Worcester; nine grandchildren, William (Kristen), Meaghan (Gregory), Kevin, Leah, Anna and Nicole O'Connell, and Daniel, Stephen and Joseph Burns; a great-granddaughter, Bridget Alice; a sister Dorothy Plante; two brothers, Joseph and Norman Minor; a dear friend Edith Nachajko; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight siblings.

Alice was born in Worcester, daughter of Henry and Rose (Vachon) Minor. She grew up in Sutton and has lived in Worcester for more than 66 years.

Alice was a graduate of Sutton High School and the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and worked 25 years in the pediatric ward at Worcester City Hospital.

Alice was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Alice was a gifted baker and will be long remembered for her incomparable molasses cookies.

Alice leaves a legacy of love and family devotion.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care for the compassion, care and comfort they provided to Alice during the last two months.

Calling hours are Tuesday, December 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Wednesday, December 5, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice's memory may be made to Visitation House, 119 Endicott St., Worcester, MA 01610.

I had the pleasure of meeting Alice at Notre dame long term and I also had the pleasure of making sure she had a good supper and that she enjoyed her meals which she did. I so enjoyed her presence and I'm so sad that she's gone, but she will always hold a special place in my heart.
