Allan H. MacQuarrie, 76

MARLBOROUGH - Allan H. MacQuarrie, 76, died Friday April 1st, 2016 after being stricken ill earlier in the week. He was the husband of Marilyn (Portanova) MacQuarrie to whom he was married for 37 years. He was born in Marlborough, the son of the late Aubrey and Marjorie (Harris) MacQuarrie and lived here much of his life before moving to Berlin and recently to Clinton. He also spent alot of his retired life in Sarasota, FL.

Mr. MacQuarrie was a self employed General Contractor for many years. After retiring, he served part time as the assistant tax assessor and assistant building inspector for the town of Berlin.

Mr. MacQuarrie was a member of the Marlborough Lions Club for many years. He loved nature, and fished and hunted for most of his adult life. In his younger years, he partnered to build a fishing boat and spent many summers tuna fishing off Cape Cod. He owned a hunting camp in Vermont where he spent weekends and made great friends.

Mr. MacQuarrie loved to travel with his wife and they especially enjoyed camping in each of the United States. He loved poetry, music, art and especially people, connecting with everyone he met to forge lasting friendships.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Edward Flaherty and his wife Barbara of Clinton, Jeffrey MacQuarrie of Vero Beach Fla., Allan MacQuarrie and his wife Jill of Danielson CT; four daughters, Tammy Morgan and her husband Michael of Seattle WA, Jody MacQuarrie of Mashpee, Robin McGrath and her husband Daniel of Weymouth, Christine Holyoak and her husband Kevin of Maui Hawaii; a sister Susan Goguen of Moncton, New Brunswick, CA; nineteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Brendan Flaherty and three sisters, Audrey Gunsolly, Pattie Bryant and Jeanie Gilchrist.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the First Parish Church of Berlin, 24 Central St. Berlin. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., Marlborough.
