Anthony Zollo Obituary

On August 7, 2009, the world lost a good man. Anthony "Tony" Zollo died at UMass Medical Center, at the age of 66, after collapsing at his home.

He was a life long resident of Worcester and a 1961 graduate of North High School. He retired in 2005 from the Worcester Telegram where he had been employed as a pressman. His career at the Telegram spanned 35 years. Since his retirement he had been an active member of The Retired Men's Club of Greendale and was the incumbent president. In his earlier years, Tony was a member of the WWF. Over the period of 7 years, he wrestled in over 200 bouts in New York, Montreal, Philadelphia, and New England. He was an avid photographer who enjoyed his garden, cooking and time on his computer.

He leaves behind his wife and closest friend, Charlene (Blackburn) Zollo. Tony was a kind and generous man. In his death, he continues that generosity as a donor to the New England Organ Bank.

His daughter, Deana Chadwick of Worcester, survives him. His daughter, Patricia Cimochowski, predeceased him. He also leaves his stepsons, Karl Amorelli of Dudley, Isaac Knight of Worcester and James Newell of Leominster, and his stepdaughter, Jamie Newell of Dudley. He will be missed by his brother and co-worker at the Telegram, William Zollo of Cherry Valley; his brother, Robert Zollo of Worcester and his sister, Barbara McGrail of Spencer. His sister, Marie Peters, predeceased him. Tony leaves behind nine grandchildren that brought a special joy to his life: Thomas, Joshua and Brandon Chadwick all of Worcester; Hayley Cimochowski of Worcester; Nicholas and Jason Amorelli of Dudley; Tyrel Wood, Isaiah Baker and Sophie Jean Newell of Leominster. He leaves several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 12th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St., Worcester, MA 01604 or American Diabetes Association, PO BOX 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
