Barbara (McCann) Philbin, 89

Clinton - Barbara E. "Bibsie" (McCann) Philbin, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 22 years, Elmer T. Philbin, Jr., who died in 1976, and their daughter Marianne K. Philbin, who died in 2010. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mark T. Philbin & Julianna of Lancaster; Rosemary Phillips & Donald of Media, PA; and two granddaughters, Hillary Philbin and Carly Philbin; son-in-law Edward Wieland of Washington, D.C.; her niece Mary (McCann) & Dan Brown of San Mateo, CA and her nephew David McCann of Santa Fe, NM, several cousins and many dear friends. Barbara was pre-deceased by her siblings Festus McCann, M. Irene McCann, and Theresa Arrington Dunn.

Barbara was born in Clinton to the late Festus & Irene (Cannon) McCann. She graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1945, and obtained her Bachelors' degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. A talented painter and artist, Mrs. Philbin enjoyed her career as an art teacher in the Clinton Public School System before ultimately retiring. She settled in Falmouth and later worked for Senator Ted Kennedy at his family residence in Hyannis Port. Barbara loved the ocean and dogs and was happiest while in the company of her friends and family. Funeral services are to be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5 until 7 PM.
