Charlotte Carlton Obituary
Durham, NC/
Worcester - Charlotte Martha (Wilson) Carlton, 88, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 9, 2015.
Charlotte was born in Worcester on March 1, 1927 to the late Leslie Martinus and Lena (Jackson) Wilson and was the great-granddaughter of Bethany Veney. Charlotte was married to the love of her life, the late James Robert Carlton until his passing in 1973.
Charlotte worked for many years as an Executive Secretary for the Worcester Public School System and then the Worcester City Government until she retired. Charlotte worked in churches her entire life in multiple capacities and was an outstanding writer, as well as a great woman of faith, service, and integrity.
Charlotte leaves her daughters, Harriet Iris Carlton-James (husband Thomas) of Durham, NC and Eden Fisher Carlton of Brookhaven, PA. Her grandchildren, Blake J. Hampton II (wife Shanea) of Durham, NC, Harriet Mariama L Coates IV of Alhambra, CA, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Charlotte was predeceased by her brothers Leslie and John Wilson, and her sister Bernice Smith, and leaves her living siblings, Laura Pearson, Oliver Wilson, Paula Fisher and Marilyn Ward all of Worcester, MA, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be on Monday, November 16, 2015, in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with Calling Hours from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon, followed by her Funeral Service at 12 Noon. Interment beside her husband will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.

Dear Eden and Harriet,
I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My heart and prayers are with you both and the family. As I thought about my time at John Street Baptist Church I have fond memories of your mother such as her beautiful singing voice, her piano playing before the torch was passed to you and Harriet. Her love and support for Peggie-Ann whom she enjoyed working for. The sewing she had me do for her and Peggie-Ann. She a warm quite spirited giant who gave me such support and mentoring over the years at John Street. She like you both will always be in my heart.

The Carltons were our neighbors over 45 years ago in the Bronx NY. I still have fond memories of Mrs Carlton yelling for Harriet and Eden to come inside because the street lights had come on. She was a wonderful mother and a dear friend to the McCray family. Many years have past, our families separated by states, we somehow have kept connected from time to time. She will be dearly missed.
