David Tierney Obituary

David J. Tierney, 58

WORCESTER - David J. Tierney, 58, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 22, 2019 at his home. He was the beloved partner of Erin Culross of Sutton, MA. Dave was born in Worcester, MA on December 26, 1960; he was the son of the late Edmund Jay and Gayle (McGurren) Tierney of Worcester, MA. Dave was a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He had a successful career in sales and as a Human Resources Executive.

Dave was an emphatic sports enthusiast of fishing, golf, the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics. His biggest enjoyment of all was spending time with his children, Payden and Haley. Whether simply attending their sporting events, or surprising them with trips to Las Vegas or the Dominican Republic. All he did, he did for them. One of his famous games to play was to ask them, "For all the money in my pocket, will you eat this? (their absolute, least favorite food). The family was devastated when his beautiful daughter Haley died in an automobile accident in 2013.

Dave was famous among friends and family for his love of surf casting down at Race Point on Cape Cod, his love of Hostess Cakes, Two and a Half Men, Reese's cups and a good bourbon and cigar, not necessarily in that order. He lived each day with humor and spontaneity, engaging people in conversation wherever he went. To meet him was to become a friend.

Dave is survived by his son Payden and his wife Nicole of Dallas, TX, his sister Jayne Tierney Blondin of South Grafton, MA, his brother John and his wife Debra Tierney of Tewksbury, MA, and his former wife Jennie Tierney of Southwick, MA; his beloved nieces and nephew, Cameron Blondin of South Grafton, Lauren Blondin and her wife Chelsey of Castle Hayne, NC and Shay Tierney and her wife Jenny Von Rosen of Berlin, Germany. Dave was close with all of his nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins and extended family and friends. His enthusiasm and infectious humor will be missed by all. The many happy times we had with him will be fondly remembered by all… forever.

Calling hours will be held Friday, March 29, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St. A service of remembrance will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Ave., Bloomfield CT 06002, foodshare.org.

I cant believe its been a year. I think of you often, Dave. I use your Dav-isms all the time. You were a great boss and mentor and even though we didnt see much of each other in recent years, you made me a better HR professional and I miss you immensely.

To the Tierney family,

Dave will always be alive in our hearts and in our memories. He is my best friend, a man I always admired, respected, and loved. Dave always took the time to listen and his infectious positive outlook on life, family, and friendships guided me personally to make decisions that gave me the best opportunity for success both personally and professionally. I'm a better man, father, husband, professional, and friend because of my relationship with Dave. There are only two people in my whole life that I have allowed to call me "Jimmy" a name I never liked. However when Dave addressed me using that name it was always with love and respect and it made me feel special a gift that Dave had that touched so many lives. Dave's impact on my life was profound and it changed my life forever and I will honor him by paying it forward impacting others with the same passion, love, and joy for life as Dave did for me and my family.

Forever grateful to have been his friend,

Jim Bentley

Godspeed, Rest in Peace.

My heart is so broken to hear of Dave's passing! He was an amazing boss, leader, mentor, friend and all around remarkable man. It was a privilege and honor to have been given the chance to work for him and along side him. His magnetic personality, contagious energy, Dave-isms and his "glass have full" attitude made Oakleaf one outstanding place to work! He definitely made this world a better place just by being in it!
My deepest condolences to the Tierney family. You are all in my heart and prayers.

To the Tierney family -

Our hearts are broken to learn the passing of Dave. He was a remarkable man. His sense of humor was infectious. Dave reached out to us at Christmas and spoke about getting together this summer. The laughter and jokes never stopped. We will miss him very much. He's with Haley and the dear Lord and that gives us peace. May all the memories you've shared bring you comfort in the days ahead.

Rest in Peace dear friend...

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I enjoyed working with Dave when he was a Foodshare volunteer in our Retail Rescue program. I could always count on him to show up at a store with a smile and leave with a full load of donations for a local pantry. My condolences to his family.

Dear Jayne, Cam, Lauren & family;

Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very, very difficult time. Ben, Doreen and I were very fortunate to have known Dave and truly enjoyed his wit, sense of humor and charming personality! Ben would always come back with stories associated to sleep overs at uncle Dave's' with Cam. Especially, the stories surrounding Dave's game of "For all the money in my pocket, will you eat this?. The kids always reflected on these special uncle Dave moments every time we got together. Words fall short of expressing our sorrow for your loss. Dave was just a gentleman and fun to be around! Please take time to reflect on your moments with Dave and hold tight to these memories for comfort, lean on your friends for strength, and always remember how much you are cared about. We were all very blessed by his human nature and his ability to demonstrate how to live life, with a sincere smile and a little humor! May the love of those around you help you all through the days ahead.

I am so saddened by Dave's passing. He was a wonderful boss, mentor, but more importantly, friend. He led our HR Department at Oakleaf with a great blend or humor and candor. One of my favorite Dave-isms was Lor-Just give me the baby, not the labor pains when I would start to go into too much detail.
I use Dave frequently to this day as an example when I am leading Insights or other leadership training events. I will continue to do so in his memory. He taught me a lot in our time together at Oakleaf and was truly one of my favorite bosses, if not my favorite.
While we didn't see each other over the past few years, my heart aches and tears are flowing.
My deepest sympathies to Payden and the entire family. He was truly one of a kind.

So sad to read of Dave's passing. He was an old neighbor of ours and truly a great guy. He was always so kind and caring. My children were young at the time Dave lived here and they loved to talk to anyone and everyone. They would see Dave walking and they would run out to talk to their friend Dave . Conversations with Dave always included laughs. Thoughts and prayers for those mourning Dave . Fondly The Egan Family East Granby
