3 years ago she was my 4th grade teacher and she inspired me so much and the rest of my class.I'm so happy i was able to be one of her students.

February 5, 2015

I had the privilege to work at Clark Street School for one year when Eileen was a first grade teacher. I quickly realized she was an extraordinary teacher! I enjoyed stopping by her classroom and listen to her talk about her practice. Not only did she share stories about cooking with her class but I had the opportunity to witness one of the productions she directed for her beloved first grade students. If there is another bright star illuminating the night sky, it must Eileen's.

Peace to you and yours,

Dear Rich, Jamie, Bryan Tara and Lena,

I was so sorry to hear of Eileen's passing. She will be missed by Jimmy, Gina and myself. Gina went on Facebook tonight when I told her and tagged everyone from Clark Street that she could find. I don't get the paper and didn't find out until today. I haven't seen her since Bryan and Gina were in High School and on the Crew Team. I kept my involvement in the WPS until Gina Graduated. Thanks to the love that Eileen shared for learning my children both went to college, which is something I didn't do.

My ADHD Jimmy got his degree in Criminal Justice and thanks to the Clark Street Motto he became a Border Patrol Agent. Eileen didn't have either Jim or Gina, but they spent a lot of time with her while I was running the Library. She always told Jim that there was nothing that he could not do. She was right. After 2 years as a Border Patrol Agent he resigned and is now a Child Protective Specialist Supervisor. He helps parents learn to be parents and teaches kids what he learned at Clark Street "Sharing, Caring and Learning". He lives in Benson, AZ and loves helping families, something he learned from Eileen and Rich, especially when Rich let him help with the mural he painted on the hallway wall.

Gina has two Associate Degrees, one in Business Management, and the other in Medical Office Management. She is married, her last name is Meriam. She works at St. Vincent Hospital in the Scheduling Department and has a 3 year old daughter who keeps us very busy.

Mrs. Barry, Fr. Bafaro, my Uncle is at Southgate in the Assisted Living section. He is non-verbal and sometimes doesn't know who I am or what my name is. Taking care of my Grandmother Rose Bafaro and him was too much for me. Nana was in Shrewsbury Nursing Home before she passed away 4 years ago.

Gina and I feel terrible that we didn't see the announcement. We would have certainly come to pay our respects and thanks to a wonderful lady, teacher, parent and friend.

I did tell Jimmy tonight, he was upset and sends his condolences to all of you.

My prayers are with you all.
Peace be with you,
Lots of love and hugs,
Susan, James and Gina Cozzolino

Some things in life are harder than other things, this is one of the hardest things for me! Eileen was more than a sister in law to me, she was a friend. She had a way of always encouraging me. If not for her, I don't think I would have gone back to school to become a teacher. She kept on telling me that I wasn't too old to do the things that I loved. She proved that herself when she took up the guitar. She learned to play beautifully and tried to teach me also. My kids can attest that it is probably one of her few failures! Eileen , you will always be in my heart. I love you!

As a longtime school nurse in Worcester, I often worked at Clark St. Eileen was an outstanding, caring and creative teacher. She was always approachable and easy to work with, on behalf of the children in her classroom. There's an old Irish saying, "Their likes will not be here again", and surely that applies to Eileen. One could never tweet about Eileen. There would be too few words allowed to describe the person she was. Her love for and dedication to her family, her friends and her students were her life force and her constant gift to us all.

I believe there is a reason for everything that happens, even if we don't see it at the time. Sometimes we see it later, sometimes not, but the reason is there regardless. I shall miss my friend Eileen. The world will surely be a lesser place because she no longer walks with us here in our time and in our space.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family and her friends.

To the Barbieri Family,
I was heartbroken when I read the news of Eileen's passing. She was a wonderful & memorable teacher to my daughter Bridget at Clark Street School. Last year I had the opportunity to visit & chat with Eileen when she showed up during a mutual friends (& former Parent of a Clark St.School's) Chemo Treatment, offering her love, support & encouragement even though she was battling her very own courageous fight!
Heaven truly has gained another Angel too soon.
May you find peace in the happy memories you have of her through the difficult days ahead! My thoughts & prayers are with all of you & May God hold you Eileen in the palm of his hand...until we meet again.

Heaven has gained another angel much too soon. One that I know will continue to share her love with her family and friends from above.

Even though it is still hard for me to think of her as being gone, I treasure all of my memories of my Aunt Eileen, a person full of warmth and passion for all of the things she loved. Her students were lucky to have someone who cared so deeply for making a difference in their lives and went the extra step to provide a unique learning experience. I was fortunate to have her in my life as the ultimate “cool” Aunt who was forever young, always easy to talk to, loved sports and music, and whenever you spoke with her, she made you feel like you were the only person in the room. Not to mention her amazing talent making custom cakes for us as kids which always made our birthdays extra special. I miss you already.

Love always,
Michael

Dear Rich and family,
Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. So saddened and sorry to hear of Eileen's passing! JD was so crazy about his 1st grade teacher..Eileen found a subject that he loved (eagles & hawks) and let him take off with that.. I can remember her notes home would say how wonderfully he was "soaring" in class! I believe he still has a special book of eagles that she bought him.
I too was quite fortunate to have Eileen as my mentor and friend during student teaching! She took me into her classroom right under her wings and taught me so much about children, teaching and life itself.. My senior year was filled with working part time, student teaching and being a single mom. When I felt drained and the "Mommy guilt" set in, I felt as though I couldn't finish, Eileen was right there reminding me of all the positives that life would bring when I finished my degree..she & Rich welcomed me into their home so much during that time, and JD was right there too being entertained by Rich or Bryan, being fed Eileen's cooking and happy.. while I was was being "taught" by MY teacher Eileen!!!
She certainly was an incredibly amazing women who touched so many lives and will be forever missed!!!
Rest in peace Eileen and thank you for being Jds teacher, my teacher and our friend!

January 27, 2015

To Eileen's family,
I was so saddened to hear of Eileen's passing; a remarkable woman who was far too young. My oldest son, Chuck Hitchcock was in Eileen's daycare program almost 30 years ago.. She provided him all the love, kindness and structure that any mother would want. Her creativity and skills were that of a seasoned teacher. I am so thankful that Eileen was his "daycare mother" during those early years.
I hope that your memories will carry you through this difficult time and help you realize how lucky you were to have her in your lives.

I was so sad to hear of Eileen's struggle. Eileen brought wonder and excitement to school each day. Each lesson, so thoughtfully planned with creativity that inspired even the most reticent learner. Eileen's class would be so involved with the lesson that they would forget to go to recess. How many children can forget to go to recess? We are lucky that Eileen was able to touch so many lives and empower our children to be successful in school and in their lives. I am thrilled that I had the honor of working with Eileen and my son Michael was able to have her as a teacher.

I cannot believe that I will never see that smile again. Eileen was one of the best teachers I have ever worked with. Seldom do you see the dedication that she had for her students and their families. A life, too short, well lived.

I had heard about the mythic Eileen Barbieri for a few years and was thrilled when I found out my son Aidan would have her for 1st grade. The stories did not do her justice! To say she was a gifted and inspiring teacher is woefully inadequate. Likewise to say she was generous, caring and kind. Eileen would know just the right words to put down right now, but I am at a loss. My family has been touched deeply by her wisdom and grace. I see her influence on a daily basis. I will miss you greatly Eileen, but you will be forever in our hearts! Peace!

To the Barbieri family,
Eileen was one of the smartest most articulate and caring women I have ever met. She was a light of joy at Clark St. School and both of my boys had her for 1st grade and I always told my boys that she taught them things that a textbook never could. She taught from her heart and was willing to do anything for anyone.
Heaven has received a very special Angel.
May the wonderful memories you have of Eileen carry you through this difficult time.

I met Eileen back in the late 70's at Clark St School....I remember when Paula Tivnan took a Sabbatical and live with Eileen and her family. Eileen was a lovely, giving, person and great teacher. She will be missed by many. My heartfelt sympathies are with her husband and children.

To Eileen's family,

I am a friend of Susie and Louie Samaha and wanted to extend my sincerest condolences to you.

I am so sorry for the suffering Eileen endured and for your pain and feelings of helplessness witnessing it. She may not have been ready to depart this world, but I hope and pray that you know, now that she has, she is safe and warm and so well cared for in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior. She is indeed at true peace and beyond the woes and fears of this existence. Watch for signs from her and from God, to let you know that she is just fine now and wants you to find acceptance and peace as well.

I know this because I have lost far too many loved ones to cancer. Love ones who wanted to live, but ultimately had to move on.

My prayers for you.

I am so sorry to hear about Eileen. She was a teacher's teacher. SHe forever changed the way reading was taught through her dedication to the whole language movement, Whenever I was having a bad week at the central office, Eileen would welcome me into her classroom to gain back my sanity. The first graders she taught were so fortunate to spend a year with her. She instilled a love of learning, and more especially a love of books, in every child she taught. She will be forever in their hearts. WHen I look up at the Nevada sky tonight I will look for that brightest star as I know it will be Eileen shining for us all. Rest well my friend.
