Francis W. "Benny" Benoit, 72
Northbridge - Francis W. "Benny" Benoit, 72, of Webster, formerly of Northbridge, died in his home on Saturday, August 24, after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Claire H. (Boileau) Benoit; two children: Cheryl A. Rice and her husband, Allan M. Rice, of Bolton, and John M. Benoit of Webster; four grandchildren: Sergeant Todd S. Rice, U.S. Army, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, Eric F. Rice of Bolton, and Monica L. Benoit and Morgan M. Benoit, both of Webster; a sister, Patricia A. Williams of Northbridge; a brother, Richard G. Benoit of Whitinsville; and nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Walter J. and Grace M. (Hurney) Benoit, he was also predeceased by three brothers: Walter Benoit of Smyrna, DE, Donald Benoit of Dunedin, FL, and Robert Benoit of Millbury.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, on March 26, 1941, he was raised in Uxbridge and lived for many years in Northbridge before moving to Webster in 2007. He was a graduate of Northbridge High School. He then earned an associate degree in business from Quinsigamond Community College, and computer certification from Clark University, both in Worcester. He served for eight years in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve.
Mr. Benoit was a computer technician at New Horizons in Burlington for several years before illness forced his retirement in 2001. Before that, he worked for 10 years as a United Parcel Service supervisor in Ashland and Shrewsbury. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish, Northbridge.
Mr. Benoit's family would like to take this opportunity to thank Central Massachusetts Hospice for their support and for the excellent and loving care they gave him.
His earthly remains will be buried in St. Patrick Cemetery, Whitinsville, after a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, August 30. There are no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to Central Massachusetts Hospice, 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn, MA 01501. Turgeon Funeral Home, 80 School St., Northbridge, has been given charge of the arrangements.
