Herbert Rubin Obituary

Dr. Herbert "Herb" Erwin Rubin, 81

Worcester - Dr. Herbert "Herb" Erwin Rubin, lifelong Worcester resident, age 81, of Wrentham Road, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 21st.

He leaves a long-time companion, Ghislaine Borno, also of Worcester; two sons, Blake J. Rubin and his wife, Lorraine of Holden, Jordan J. Rubin and his wife, Marci of Shrewsbury; brother, Dr. Judah Rubin and his wife, Kyla of Mashpee; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Eliza, Jaclyn, Aidan, and Hannah. He was predeceased by his sister, Miriam "Mim" Guterman and her husband, Dr. Burte Guterman.

Herb was a graduate of Classical High School with First Honors, Tufts University, and Tufts Medical School where he received a Doctorate of Medicine. After completing his residency in Baltimore, MD, he was the first neurologist to open a practice in Worcester. Over his 30 year career he treated thousands of patients. He also served honorably as a Captain and Physician in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen Texas, during the Vietnam War. He was a long term member of the Worcester District Medical Society.

Herb was a devoted "papa" to his grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending their sporting events and spending as much time with them as possible. He was also an avid tennis and golf player, a member of the Holden Towers Tennis Club and played both daily. During his retirement years, Herb spent winters with Ghislaine in Naples, Florida where he was well known for walking the back nine daily after 3:00 at Cedar Hammock Golf and Country Club, and "chatting it up" with his neighbors. He was a prolific reader, making frequent visits to the Worcester and Naples Public Libraries. Herb was a passionate sports fan, who enjoyed watching the local teams and tennis matches.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:30 PM ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25TH, AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 661 SALISBURY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

We were next door neighbors to Herb and Ghislaine at Cedar Hammock from 2002 until they moved.

We saw Herb almost every day, either at the mailbox which was right outside our front door, in the back yard working on his golf swing (which never got any better!!), walking down the 10th fairway in the afternoon, on his way to the library with his sack of books or on the driving range --- still working on his golf swing.

Always the doctor and friend, he regularly wanted to know how Anne and I were doing, how our 24 week 1 lb 12 oz grand son was doing as well as the rest of our family. When I had a case of shingles he came by and checked on me almost everyday. Being the sports fan, there was frequent conversation about Kentucky Basketball.

Herb was a great neighbor, friend and intellect

I'm sure he will be greatly missed by Ghislaine and all his family. We share your sorrow in the loss of your loved one.

Herb, may you rest in eternal peace.
