James "Bud" Daley, 88

WORCESTER - James "Bud" Daley, 88, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2014 under the loving care of his family and the staff at Millbury Healthcare Center in Millbury. Born and raised in Fall River, Bud was the son of Herbert and Margaret (O'Neil) Daley and lived 48 years in Worcester.

He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 62 years, Mary E. "Beth" (Roberts) Daley; four sons, Michael E. Daley and his wife June, of Marstons Mills, James P. Daley and his wife, Karen of Sacramento, CA, Mark S. Daley and his wife, Julie of Brookline, and David B. Daley and his wife, Patricia of Bellingham; two daughters, Patricia A. Tupaj and her husband, Randall of North Grosvenordale, CT and Colleen M. Azzarello and her husband, Anthony of Stoneham; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Jennifer, Jessica, Katelyn, Allison, Ellora, Giuseppe, Maggie, Twyla, and Grace; and several nephews and nieces. His son, John P. Daley died in 2005. He is also predeceased by a brother, Herbert Daley and a sister, Rita Guay.

Bud attended B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River and graduated from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocational Education. He taught in the Sheet Metal program at Worcester Vocational Technical High School in Worcester for 26 years retiring in 1991 as the department head. Previously, he worked 17 years for the Local Sheet Metal Union in Fall River. He was a member of Christ the King Church, Greendale Retired Men's Club and the Massachusetts Retired Teachers' Association.

He was a proud veteran and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Bud traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe with his wife and particularly enjoyed his visits to America's national parks. He also spent 21 years wintering at St. Augustine, Florida. He was proud of his children and their accomplishments and will be remembered as a nurturing and loving father. He made every effort to spend as much time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him, "Grampy". His legacy will be the example he set as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bud's family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 17, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester, followed by a graveside service with military honors at 1:30 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, off Connery Avenue, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), 60 Walnut St., Wellesley, MA 02481. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit

Mr Daley was one of the best teachers that Worcester Boys Trade School ever had. Thanks to him and his hard work as one of my teachers, I was later grateful to have my own wonderful family and grandchildren.

Im so sorry to hear about Mr Daleys passing. I did not have him for a shop teacher but would talk with him often he was a very kind caring sweet man. God bless you and your in my prayers.
