Jim was a coach for my son's Little League team where I observed his positive influence on the players, and also his outgoing sideline demeanor with parents and families. Reading his obituary, I was impressed, but not surprised, by all he had accomplished in his life, one of empathy, sharing and caring.
I send Konnie and the family my heartfelt sympathy.

Dear Konnie: I would like to express my sincere sympathy for the loss of your husband. I always voted for you (sometimes by bulletins), but I never realized that your dear husband was the pharmacist at Fisher Drug Store. When I read his obituary and saw his picture my memory of him came back. I grew up on Arthur St., on Grafton Hill and my mother who was a widow from the time I was 2, and myself visited Fishers all the time. I remember your dear husband as always being kind and friendly to all that came in contact with him in fact small story my pediatrician once prescribed a medication for me when I was young and your dear husband knowing us and seeing my name on the prescription said to my mom he had to contact Dr. Cohen my pediatrician as the medicine he prescribed was not suitable for a child and in fact could kill a child. He corrected it with my doctor and saved my life. My mother always told that story over the years and always was in gratitude to him. Again so sorry for your loss.

Konnie and Peter, I'm so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I will always remember him for his enthusiastic offer to "host" our May Street First Graders on a tour UMass Med as we ventured out to learn about our city. In later years, he offered both guidance and compassion to my family during my husband's illness. Through the campaigns he always had a smile and a story to share, some even going back to Fisher's Drugstore and Grafton Hill. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.
