James Murphy Obituary
WORCESTER - James H. Murphy, 95, of Worcester, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at home after a brief illness.
Jim's wife Mary R. (Michaud) Murphy passed away in 1985, and his son Michael J. Murphy died in 2016.
He leaves a daughter Beth McGillicuddy, her husband Sean and their two children, Jarrett and Tara, of Northborough; his son Jim and his children James and Erin, and his son Bob, all of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews.
His brothers, Judge Philip J. Murphy and Robert C. Murphy, and his sister, Rita M. Jordan, also predeceased him.
Jim was born in Worcester, son of Philip and Ella M. (Hannan) Murphy, and lived in Worcester most of his life.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war, he attended the College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1950. He was recalled to active duty in the Navy during the Korean War.
Jim had a long career as a Certified Financial Planner. His favorite hobby was golf which he played regularly until he was 90 years old. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.

Talk about a full life lived!! 95 years old .4 chidren , served his country with honor!!! Grandchildren to adore ... I would say Mr. Murphy did quite well for himself in the game of life!!!! Now heaven gets a good guy ... Rest In Peace. You have earned the peace

Jim and Bob, I'm so sorry to hear that you're dad has now passed. I have many memories of Mr. Murphy, he was a good and decent man. He lived a long and blessed life, he got to do many of the things that he enjoyed for a long time and he never lost his sense of humor. I'm thinking of you guys during this most difficult time and will keep you in my prayers. Rest in peace Mr. Murphy

Deepest condolences to Beth, Jimmy and Bobby and all of your family for the loss of your Dad. I always thought he was the coolest guy. I remember the fun times in the summers in the camper trailers he owned, at different trailer parks each summer. I remember the awesome cars he would upgrade to every few years. I especially remember how he would go out of his way, sometimes driving for hours to rescue you Beth, whenever your car would give out. He would do anything for you all. I know the last few years have been tough, but he is at peace now, up there with your mom and Mike to watch over everyone. Only time will make it easier. I´ll keep you all in my prayers. May God give you comfort and may you all live long and well.
