James Shea Obituary

James A. "Jim" Shea

Shrewsbury - James A. "Jim" Shea, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 29, 2021 at UMass Memorial Medical Center. James was born in Lewiston, ME to the late James and Eva (Mahoney) Shea. The family soon moved back to Worcester. James graduated from Classical High School, then attended Fitchburg State University where he joined the Navy ROTC. After graduation, he entered the Navy and served during the Korean War in the South Pacific. Returning home, he continued active duty while working for his Master's Degree in Education from Worcester State University. He joined the Korean War Veterans Association while continuing to serve, and retired after twenty-three years of service. Jim began his teaching career at South High School, where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of National Education Association, Worcester Property Owners Association, and Friends of the Shrewsbury Senior Center.

James and Edith (Moosey) Shea were married August 3, 1957 at St. Mary's Church in Shrewsbury. In addition to his wife, he leaves his son James J. and his wife Sonya Shea; grandson Kyle Shea of Duarte, CA; brother-in-law John J. Moosey and sister-in-law Doryce Moosey, PhD, both of Shrewsbury; nephews Chris Moosey and his wife Mia of PA, and Peter Moosey and his wife Ann Marie of Germany; his niece-in-law Cindy of Sturbridge. He is predeceased by his nephew Paul Moosey and sister-in-law Barbara Moosey.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a period of visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 6th at St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM, interment private. In keeping with the COVID-19 guidelines, all attendees are kindly asked to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's honor, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Taught with Jim at South High. Jim always had a big smile and a little story. Jim had a great rapport with his students. His kind and understanding manner gained the respect of his students and the staff. RIP Jim
