Jean Sullivan Obituary

JEAN H. SULLIVAN, 84

SUTTON -

Jean H. (Davidson) Sullivan, 84, died on Saturday, April 25, 2015, in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Northbridge, after a long illness.

Her husband of 41 years, Dennis F. Sullivan, died in 2000.

She leaves a son, Donald S. Sullivan, of Maynard; a sister, Margaret Shaw of Summerville, SC; and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sisters: Jessie Jacobs of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, and Mary Pitts of Worcester.

Born in Edinburgh on December 17, 1930, a daughter of the late Donald and Jessie (Porter) Davidson, she was raised there and then lived in London, England, UK, before she emigrated to the United States in 1957 and joined her two sisters, Mary and Margaret, in Worcester. She and Dennis were married in 1959 and made their home in Sutton in 1965.

Mrs. Sullivan worked as an accountant at the Norton Co., Worcester, for eight years, and as a cook at the Gamma-Iota Chapter of Sigma Pi Fraternity at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for ten years.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sutton where she taught Sunday School for many years. In the 1970's and 1980's she served as the secretary of the Sutton Fuller Hamlets Soccer Club.

More recently, she was one of the mainstays of the Sutton Senior Center where she was fondly referred to as the center's "Queen Mum". She volunteered twice a week for the Meals On Wheels program as well as many other activities and events; she played the piano at the center every Friday; and and she was a hostess for multiple center events. She was a loving and supportive "Scottish Mother" to all.

She also enjoyed playing cards at the center where cribbage was her game. Every Monday evening, she participated in cribbage tournaments at the Dudley Gendron American Legion Post with other seniors.

Friends and relatives are invited to Mrs. Sullivan's Memorial Service on Saturday, May 30, at 11:00 A.M., in the First Congregational Church of Sutton, 307 Boston Road, on the Common. Visiting hours in the church will be from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M., before the service. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that contributions in her memory be made to the Sutton Senior Center, 19 Hough Road, Sutton, MA 01590.

Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Millbury, is assisting with the arrangements.

Donald,
I was sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. She was a very sweet lady. I enjoyed my conversations with her. We miss her smiling face at Beaumont.
Take care,
Linnea Blue
