John Lahey Obituary

John J. Lahey, 59, of Worcester, died Tuesday, Nov. 13 in his home.

He leaves his mother, Marie G. (Fay) Lahey, four brothers, Dr. Philip J. Lahey Jr. of Worcester, Dr. Stephen J. Lahey of New York City, Peter M. Lahey of Arlington and Frank P. Lahey of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Worcester and lived in Washington, D.C., Boston and Framingham before returning recently to Worcester. His father, Dr. Philip J. Lahey Sr., died in 1999.

Jack graduated from St. John's High School where he was named to the All State and All New England basketball teams. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and was selected captain of the basketball team. He received his law degree from Suffolk University in Boston and practiced law in Washington, D.C., Boston, and recently in Worcester.

Jack will also be remembered as the "last person to make it under the bridge," referring to the I-290 bridge collapse at Southbridge St. at the foot of College Hill in 1968.

He will be dearly missed by his many friends, nieces, nephews, brothers and his loving mother.

A funeral Mass will celebrated Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in St John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Joseph N. Lane Scholarship Fund, in care of St. John's High School, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury 01545. The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
