John Orr Obituary
UXBRIDGE - John J. "Red" Orr, 91, of Uxbridge died Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Milford Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
John was born December 9, 1927 in Milford, the son of John G and Elizabeth (McKiernan) Orr and was a lifelong resident of Uxbridge. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Muriel (Colson) Orr; four children, Tim Orr of Uxbridge; Jane Marshall of Seattle, WA; Richard C. Orr and wife Donna of Glen Allen, VA; and Patti Eklund and husband Paul of Sutton, MA. He leaves a sister Elizabeth Cusson of Uxbridge; nieces and nephews and two godchildren, Nancy Gelineau Williams and Robyn Cusson Davis.
"Red" was a graduate of Uxbridge High School Class of 1945 where he excelled in all sports. He captained the 1945 Clark Tournament Basketball Championship team and was the last surviving member of the team.
A veteran of WWII, John served in the US Navy aboard the 1st USS Saipan CVL 48 aircraft carrier. He remained a proud member of the USS Saipan CVL 48 Association.
John graduated from the former Hill College Business School in Woonsocket, RI. He worked for the former Massachusetts Electric, now National Grid, for 36 years before retiring in 1989.
John enjoyed many years travelling with his family with their trailer seeing much of the US and Canada. He was an avid sports fan and followed many professional and college teams. John enjoyed his vintage tractors and spent much of his time outdoors caring for his property.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, December 19,2018 from 4–7 PM in BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 N. Main St. Rte. 122, Uxbridge.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Parish, 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Mary's Parish, 77 Mendon St. Uxbridge, MA 01569.
