Dear Christina & family,
Many years ago you, your mother, & brother, Jon & his sons were guests at many cookouts hosted by a mutual friend, J.S., at our 3-decker. I believe that when God greeted your brother, He said, "Well done most loyal & faithful servant." There's a special place for all those who put themselves in harm's way & sometimes make that ultimate sacrifice. The world grieves the loss of a great man & beloved friend to all. All were blessed to have known him. God bless you & your family on the loss of your brother. My late father-in-law & his retired brother were also Worcester firefighters.

I was fortunate enough to know both Jon and his good friend Brian from many crew races where we serve to run successful sprint races.
Last May we spent time together while officiating races in chase boats and providing scubadiving support to all races on Lake Quinsigamond for championship rowing races.
Jon was a great professional with a strong optimism and good sense of humor. We had safe great races all day and he maintained his big smile all day long!

He will be sorely missed but remembered well!

Dear Family and Friends of Jon D. Davies, Sr.

Although I did not know him, my heart aches on this day. Jon was a true hero and paid the ultimate price. Never a thought for himself he did what he felt was the right thing to do; to save a life and enter a burning building with thought and purpose.

God has called him home and I believe with all my heart that the ones who leave us will be the first to greet us when we reach the end of our journey here on earth!

Jon you did not give your life in vain. Your legacy will live on, and you will always be my hero too!

God Bless...

December 15, 2011

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Worcester Rescue One / Rescuers to Victim
Capt. Tom Kenney
Prov Fie Dept

We all know that this can happen
Any time we go out that door
Although we seldom give it any thought
This is what we signed on for

Ours can be a dangerous profession
There's no way around it
We try to take every precaution
That each situation will permit

Another fire in a wooden three-decker
In this old New England town
Houses built too close together
Worn, damaged and run down

Everyone's asleep at four in the morning
Assuming they're safe in their beds
A spark or an ember go too long unnoticed
The fire slowly but surely spreads

It consumes more fuel gaining momentum
Before it's finally detected
Smoke and fire are silent killers
They strike when unexpected

By the time the first alarm was sounded
And trucks were on the scene
Smoke was thick and flames were raging
The night air filled with screams

The first-in Engine reports heavy fire
They see flames while on the way
The Chief calls for a second alarm
Reinforcements for this fray

Occupants are lead from the building
But not all are accounted for
The firefighters must conduct a search
By going floor to floor

As they search for victims trapped inside
And put water on the fire
The building begins to lose its integrity
As the flames just grow higher

The order to evacuate the building
Is given by Command
All firefighters depart the building
Their hoses left unmanned

At just this time a civilian insists
His roommate is still inside
Second floor in the rear apartment
If he hasn't already died

Time for a search and rescue team
To make one last try
Get in and out as quickly as possible
Before things can go awry

Two brave men from Rescue One
Attempted to test fate
Reach the victim and pull him out
Before it was too late

As they made their way up the stairs
The building just let go
Burying them both amidst the rubble
And trapping them below

One would live and one would die
As fate played its hand
Why God took one and not the other
Is tough to understand

The Jakes who work in Worcester, sadly
Have been here once before
It's tough to think that again this Christmas
They'll go through this hell once more

The holidays should be a joyful time
A time without such heartache
But once again our brothers in Worcester
Must bury a brother Jake

Firefighters from all around the country
Will bid firefighter Davies farewell
For he died the same way he had lived
While answering his last bell

Although I didn't know Jon personally I want to say thank you to him and his family for the sacrifice he made. Doing this job is certainly not easy, it takes a special person to look danger in the face and continue to do it. My family had a fire a few months ago and it was this company who saved their house, without you and your brothers Jon my family wouldn't be here today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. May your family find comfort knowing you helped and saved so many people!
